Chile
Education
Language Requirement: Spanish (Intermediate)
This center is for children with disabilities between the ages of 3 and 12 years old. In addition to conducting primary education classes, the center also provides a multi-sensory stimulation classroom where students observe therapists on a weekly basis. Participants’ tasks may vary depending on their specific area of study or interest, however, some of the possible responsibilities may include assisting with classroom management, providing individualized attention to students, or developing and assisting with art workshops and educational activities. For students studying physical/occupational/speech therapy, there may be opportunities to work with the center’s therapists during their sessions with the students.
Note: This organization is closed from the middle of December until the end of February for Summer vacation and in July for winter break.
Language Requirement: Spanish (Intermediate)
This English Language Institute is a training center that focuses on teaching the practical use of English in the workplace and everyday life to youth and adults. Participants in this role may serve as a Language Partner and assist students with the development of English skills, prepare lesson plans and other educational materials for class, lead classroom discussions, support full-time English professors, facilitate group discussions, correct student assignments, and help with pronunciation. Participants may also have opportunities to assist administrators in program development or research projects.

These health clinics throughout Valparaíso are part of the Ministry of Education and Health and seek to provide the best quality basic healthcare, consultations, and health education. Participants in this role may observe consultations, learn health field terminology, participate in administrative duties performed in a health care setting, and help provide social, educational, and health and wellness outreach to the community. Placements that may involve patient interaction are observation-based; participants are required to complete the Global Ambassadors for Patient Safety (GAPS) workshop for eligibility.

Costa Rica
Language Requirement: Spanish (High Intermediate)
This hospital treats children with a vast array of health conditions including burns, cancer, acute conditions, premature birth, and more. This placement is best for students majoring in Pre-Medicine, Pre-Nursing, Public Health, and Health Science or for students interested in learning about foreign health care systems. Participants in this role may be able to visit and read to children in the various wards, assist volunteer staff at the hospital with the duties of the ward, and boost patients' morale through storytelling, arts and crafts projects, and games. Placements that may involve patient interaction are observation-based; participants are required to complete the Global Ambassadors for Patient Safety (GAPS) workshop for eligibility.

Founded in 1992, the butterfly garden is located on the Rio Torres bio-corridor in central San Jose. They breed approximately 20 different butterfly species and care for the surrounding gardens to maintain the habitat. Their mission is to operate an eco-sustainable business that provides social, environmental, educational, cultural, and economic benefits for the community. Possible responsibilities include planting shrubs and weeding in the greenhouses or garden trails, feeding larvae and butterflies in the laboratory, or assisting with content creation and social media marketing.

These public and private clinics throughout San José offer general medical services, specialty medicine, and educational health campaigns. Health clinic placements are best for students majoring in Pre-Medicine, Pre-Nursing, Public Health, and Health Science or for students interested in learning about foreign health care systems. Participants may be placed in a general hospital, public or private clinic, community health center, or other healthcare setting and may have opportunities to learn about health issues, prevention, health care, and patient care in Costa Rica by engaging with and shadowing local professionals. Additionally, participants may serve in a variety of ways including preparing emergency kits, accompanying patients, and sterilizing materials. Participants may also accompany trained professionals on home visits and/or assist staff in coordinating and conducting health campaigns on topics such as nutrition, dengue, and immunizations. Please note that participants' experiences may vary depending on interests, host organization, language level, and education level. This specific center aims to provide students with opportunities to express themselves through dance, theater, and circus performance. Service-Learning participants will have opportunities to assist in both hands-on and administrative capacities such as supporting workshops, helping with artistic presentations, and organizing logistics and beneficiary information.

As the capital city of Costa Rica, San José is home to many museums and cultural centers. Participants placed in these organizations may have opportunities to promote awareness of the rich cultural history of Costa Rica by organizing and coordinating projects for visitors, leading guided museum tours, assisting with marketing and PR projects, coordinating special events, and translating marketing materials. These placements are ideal for individuals interested in archaeology, anthropology, museology, natural history, education, and administration.

This state-funded PK-12 bilingual school's mission is to provide quality, integrated education with a special focus on civic commitment, personal growth, and environmental conservation. Participants in this organization may have opportunities to serve as a teacher’s assistant, help students with reading, writing, listening, and speaking lessons in English, and assist in PE classes and other activities.
Due to vacations, this organization is not available from mid-December through the first week of February and during July.

This is a charitable non-profit organization committed to promoting the wellbeing of the Costa Rican youth and their families. The organization focuses on helping families from rural, low income areas, whose children are in need of medical treatment at the local children’s hospital. The organization’s mission is to provide the children with a better chance of recovery during their treatment at the hospital and a safe place to play and have a "home away from home". Participants work alongside other volunteers to keep the center clean and welcoming and interact with the children and their families who are staying at the center, and participants also have opportunities to propose their own projects.
Language Requirement: Spanish (Intermediate)
This center empowers people with disabilities, particularly people with visual and hearing impairment, to live independently by providing counseling and physical, speech, and occupational therapy in addition to music, art, and physical education. Students at the center also receive dietary guidance and medical care. Participants in this organization may have chances to become actively involved in the community by aiding educational or creative instruction, assisting in the dining area, and coordinating recreational activities.

For 130 years, this senior citizens’ home has been providing comprehensive care for the elderly. They strive to provide a family atmosphere of acceptance and respect, while fully addressing the needs of over 200 seniors. Participants in this organization may have opportunities to plan and lead recreational activities, organize games, socialize with and read to the residents, teach dance or aerobics classes, and assist with everyday activities. Placements that may involve patient interaction are observation-based; participants are required to complete the Global Ambassadors for Patient Safety (GAPS) workshop for eligibility.
Ireland
Language Requirement: English (Advanced)
One of only three campus community radio stations in Ireland, this radio station has been serving the Galway university student community for over 30 years. As a radio station "for students, by students", it facilitates genuine participation rather than one-way interactions with listeners and provides diverse and eclectic weekly talk shows covering a wide range of student issues like LGBTQ+ rights, Irish language shows, French language shows, Spanish language shows, university sports coverage, unsigned local artists, current affairs, on-campus event coverage, and more. Throughout the school year and summer, participants can join a dedicated group of local volunteers who work tirelessly to deliver a series of informative, entertaining, and exciting radio programs to the wider community.

Assist with a non-profit organization that works to provide support for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families. Founded by a concerned parent group in 2011 to address a need for service provision, information, advocacy, and support for families living with ASD, this organization has since been providing social clubs, respite camps, skills-building workshops, family fun days, and activities for individuals on the spectrum, siblings, and whole families. Participants may support and supervise children of various ages with Autism Spectrum Disorder in a range of clubs and activities. These might include Lego Club, Movie Production Club, and Play Groups, as well as after-school activities, special holiday clubs, and weekend social clubs. During the summer, students primarily help prepare for and implement summer camps, which are held annually by this organization. Potential opportunities to help supervise additional special interest clubs may arise.

In doing so, they offer practical and fun activities for individuals with disabilities, such as community outings to the coffee shop, shopping center, and gyn, as well as engaging classes and activities such as art and yoga.

This organization provides services like therapeutic horsemanship, equine-facilitated coaching, and EAGALA model equine-assisted personal development and psychotherapy. All the services provided utilize horses as a catalyst for change and are tailored according to the specific goals hoped to be achieved by the individual or group. Their core values include safety, respect, inclusion, learning, and fun.
Note: Students are required to have significant previous experience with horses.
Morocco

This organization's goal is to boost cultural activities for youth and women. Participants will have opportunities to help with teaching various classes, including English, computer science, dance classes, sports, music, video editing, theatre, photoshop, drawing and painting, coaching, cinema.

This organization provides an array of services to people of all ages. They provide education for primary and middle school children, support for adults with disabilities, and care for senior citizens. Participants may assist in teaching English, designing specialty workshops and classes, and recreational activities for all ages.
In the summer months, participants are only able to work with senior citizens.

These foundations assist Moroccan women of all economic levels to complete their education. Many of the educational courses teach artisan skills (embroidery, calligraphy, literacy, cooking, and hairdressing) to increase employment opportunities and/or assist the women in starting their own businesses. Participant opportunities may include organizing logistics, preparing lesson plans, and teaching English to the women. Additional help may be needed with fundraising, marketing, or creating a social media presence or website development to help the women sell their products.
Language Proficiency Recommendation: Arabic (Beginning), French (Beginning)
This center works with children who have physical and/or intellectual disabilities. They provide therapy, education, and recreational services. Participants may have the opportunity to shadow physical therapists, sanitize equipment and classrooms, teach English, assist with events, and plan recreational activities.

Cusco, Peru
Language Requirement: Spanish (High Intermediate)
This music institute offers music classes to kids, youth, and adults with the goal of bringing music into the lives of the local community. Participants in this role will have opportunities to learn about local musical traditions to spread the art of music to local youth, especially traditional Andean music of the region. Qualified participants may also be able to share teaching techniques and musical expertise with the students and teachers at the Institute and help in the areas of marketing and administration.

With one of the best education systems in Latin America, Peru is home to many of South America’s finest primary and secondary schools. Childhood Education Program placements are in various public and private schools and after-school centers. Participants placed in these organizations may have opportunities to assist teachers in Cusco with their classroom duties, help lead English classes, support students through mentoring, develop and facilitate activities and educational games, and assist with homework. Additionally, participants may have the chance to observe teaching techniques and assist teachers with lesson planning and preparation.
Language Requirement: Spanish (Intermediate)
Centrally located in Cusco, this veterinary clinic is dedicated to providing high-quality veterinary services to the local pets and service animals by focusing on preventative health, administering vaccines, performing surgeries, and conducting overall health assessments. Participants in the clinic may assist in various areas under the supervision of veterinary staff. Participants may have opportunities to assist customers, bathe and trim the animals, walk the dogs, clean the cages and exercise areas, and observe the veterinarians during procedures. Participants can also be a great asset to the clinic by translating for English-speaking clients.
Language Requirement: Spanish (Intermediate)
This organization has created an environment to care for the llamas and alpacas which are historically vital pieces of Peruvian culture. Raising these animals and harvesting their wool also leads to the preservation of traditional Incan spinning, dyeing, and weaving practices. These cultural values are promoted among locals and tourists alike through workshops and demonstrations held at the center. Participants will assist in caring for the animals and learning the traditions of Peruvian heritage. They may also assist with tours of the facility and weaving workshops. Depending on the season, opportunities may be available with planting and harvesting various vegetables that help to feed surrounding communities.

These organizations offer comprehensive services for children and young people with disabilities in Cusco, Peru. They aim to improve the quality of life for these youth by teaching them how to interact in their social and academic environments. Participants will serve as support for children with disabilities and may assist with feeding and skills exercises, as well as facilitating entertaining sensory activities through music and art. Opportunities to observe speech and physical therapists on-site may also be available.

These local, grass-roots organizations seek to provide a welcoming and safe environment in which high-risk youth are able to improve their self-esteem, gain important life skills, and strive for a successful future. Participants can facilitate games, help with homework, and organize recreational afternoon activities. Depending on skills and training, participants may also help in classes or workshops.

This Senior Citizens' home is dedicated to housing and caring for elderly residents who have been abandoned or neglected. They strive to provide stability and improved quality of life for residents. Participants in this organization may assist with mealtimes and daily tasks around the center, socialize with the residents, and help with other assignments as needed. These dental clinics specialize in implants, orthodontics, periodontology, and radiology and seek to improve the oral health status of the population of southern Peru and reduce the prevalence of oral diseases. Participants in dental clinic placements may have the opportunity to learn about dental care in Peru by observing and assisting the clinic’s dentists in Cusco as they perform their daily responsibilities. Example activities may include observing the drilling and filling of cavities, observing extractions and other operations, and cleaning and sanitizing dental instruments. Participants may also be able to observe taking x-rays, process lab work, and perform certain administrative duties such as new patient registration.

This national organization began in 1977 with the goal of defending and promoting human rights in the Cusco region. Their mission is to defend men, women, and children who have suffered a violation of their fundamental human rights. Participants in this organization may work in areas such as Peruvian legal rights, mental health, and training individuals on the topics of human rights. Participants may also be asked to help create educational materials, translate documents, and assist with projects and workshops.
Lima, Peru
Community Development
Language Requirement: Spanish (Beginning)
This multinational non-profit organization seeks to alleviate poverty and transform communities through collaboration, sustainable development, and grass-roots construction projects. Participants in this role may assist the organization with fundraising, project development, campaigns, logistical support, and other tasks as needed.

Language Requirement: Spanish (Intermediate)
This nonprofit organization enables children that are severely impacted by life-threatening illnesses to continue with as much normalcy as possible by bringing the classroom to their hospital rooms. Participants may assist at a Cancer Hospital or at a Children's Hospital in Lima and may assist the staff in helping these patients stay up to date on the schoolwork they are missing during treatment and care. On days when patients are unwilling or unable to complete the curriculum, participants may engage in musical and/or crafting activities. Participants will also have the opportunity to observe how the Peruvian public health system works.

Environment
Language Requirement: Spanish (Beginning)
This non-profit's mission is to raise awareness about the social and environmental benefits of recycling and the negative consequences of plastic pollution, especially in aquatic ecosystems in and around Lima. Participants will assist the staff with research, seek project proposals for creative recycling initiatives, and develop information sessions for children, youth, and adults. There may also be opportunities to work in a marketing capacity, generating graphics and promotional materials.

This institute serves children with physical, intellectual, or sensory disabilities through physical therapy, social integration, and educational activities. The institute follows an early treatment approach known as the Doman Method-- one in which the parents of the child participate actively in the rehabilitation program. Participants may have the opportunity to work directly with the children and assist the staff in various areas, such as neurology, psychology, physical therapy, education, and pedagogy.
South Africa

These religious primary schools cater to children ages 6-14 from primarily Coloured and Black Communities. They strive to accommodate the needs of all learners and provide quality education based on a proud tradition of service. Participants in this role may help with after-school care, assist students with homework, tutor students in subjects such as math and English, and serve as teaching assistants in classrooms.

Offering a mainstream curriculum for learners with physical disabilities, this school was founded in 1974 for children in Xhosa-speaking communities of the Cape townships. Participants may assist in the following areas: administrative duties, coaching sports or leading other activities, supervising students during lunch and recreation times, classroom assistance, and more depending on interests and skills.

These organizations drive social change in South Africa by empowering young learners from vulnerable communities. Their volunteer and peer-to-peer programs encourage enrollment into tertiary education and skill-building for future employment. Participants in these organizations may assist staff and tutors, many of whom are previous beneficiaries of the program themselves, in a variety of areas such as after-school tutoring in Math and English, sports and recreation, promotion through social media, fundraising, administrative tasks, and more.

The center provides essential services to women and children who are victims of domestic or sexual abuse. They are working towards a future where all women are free and safe from violence. Participants may have opportunities to aid the organization in its efforts through administrative tasks, research, help manage finances, and help run workshops for children and women.
This organization has a monthly volunteer fee and there will be an additional charge for students confirmed to serve here.
Granada, Spain
Language Requirement: Spanish (Low intermediate)
This organization focuses on the development of under-resourced local and international communities through humanitarian aid and sustainable development projects. They fight for environmental awareness and against injustice. Participants may contribute by organizing, classifying, and distributing donations such as clothes, toys, books, and kitchenware to communities in need. Once a month on weekends, there are workshops and talks where participants can help with fundraising and administrative tasks.
Language Requirement: Spanish (All Spanish levels are welcome!)
This local school serves students K-12. Participants will have the opportunity to teach English and gain classroom experience working with students from Granada, Spain. Native English speakers are needed to teach pronunciation, assist teachers in daily classroom duties, help with homework, and design creative activities for classes.
Note: Schools are closed during July and August due to summer vacation. Some local schools may offer summer school classes within a less-structured educational setting, but availability is not guaranteed.
Language Requirement: Spanish (Low intermediate)
This cooperative is dedicated to designing and developing educational resources related to environmental education and values. In addition to extracurricular activities at the "Aula de Naturaleza" and morning classroom activities, the staff carries out educational projects with municipalities and offers multiple resources and services to local schools. Service-learning participants may have an active role in all the activities of the cooperative such as helping with itineraries, storytelling at schools, hiking with children, workshops, training talks, and animation activities with students at local schools.
Note: In June and July, participants may assist with the summer school programs where service-learning participants offer support to the "ludoteca," a play center for the children during the summer.
Language Requirement: Spanish (High Beginning)
Within walking distance of the ISA office, this organization is dedicated to providing services for senior citizens to achieve their maximum quality of life and well-being. Help staff coordinate and lead recreational and cultural activities designed to improve and maintain the residents' level of personal autonomy and independence. Take initiative to plan creative activities, organize games, take walks, read and talk with residents, teach dance or aerobics classes, and assist with everyday activities. This organization encourages student-led projects to serve a need identified by the Senior Citizen’s Home.

This organization might be closed to participants from June 15th to June 30th, and is available to accept participants in July but is closed in August.
Language Requirement: Spanish (Intermediate)
The mission of the organization is to support children on the autism spectrum as well as their families. The aim is to enhance the well-being of the family unit through fun and recreational activities including music, art, and play therapy as well as guardian(s) support mechanisms. Additionally, the center provides space to respond to the needs of this group in Granada. Serve alongside community members to carry out workshops designed for children with autism that promote autonomy, manual skills, and psychomotor skills.
Note: In July, the organization runs a summer school for children with disabilities. The organization is closed in August.
Language Requirement: Spanish (High Beginning)
This placement offers students the opportunity to work with Granada's only community kitchen with the preparation and serving of dinner to people in need on weekday evenings. The populations they primarily serve are people experiencing homelessness, immigrants, and anyone else who isn't sure where their next meal is coming from. Students must be comfortable with knowing the dinner rush can be busy at times and be willing to work in a fast-paced and less pleasant environment. The center also offers community programs to various populations in the city. Participants in this role will have the opportunity to speak with and assist numerous community members, especially those in marginalized populations, and gain experience in large-scale food preparation logistics.

This organization placement is best suited for students majoring in Pre-Medicine, Pre-Nursing, Public Health, and Health Science or for students interested in learning about foreign health care systems. This organization is dedicated to providing rehabilitation and mental health services to vulnerable populations in Granada by providing comprehensive medical services and assistance to individuals with disabilities and the homeless. Participants in this role will have the opportunity to gain an understanding of the sociopolitical issues in the local community by engaging with people experiencing homelessness, providing support as an assistant in the dining hall, or helping sort and organize donations for people facing income and housing difficulties.

Salamanca, Spain
Language Requirement: Spanish (High Intermediate)
WorldStrides Community Engagement has partnered with the Salamanca City Council to coordinate placements with over 80 local non-profit community organizations. These organizations work within a variety of sectors including Family and Youth development, as well as broader Community development. Examples of organizations include support centers for people with disabilities, senior citizen homes, refugee and immigrant support, and summer camps. While we aim to place students in their field of interest, placement with any single organization will depend on the projects available at the time. Students interested in exploring these opportunities should be flexible with their placement options and understand that placement confirmation will likely be 1-2 weeks prior to the program start date.

This public library is part of the cultural heart of Salamanca. Participants in this organization may contribute to this dynamic Spanish institution by helping to plan, organize, and publicize weekly workshops and cultural activities for kids and adults, engage with the community, and assist with a variety of workshops involving art, literature, reading, English classes, and theatrical activities for children.
Note: The library is closed in August.
Language Requirement: Spanish (Intermediate)
This organization is a part of the local government and is located in the City Hall. It is responsible for promoting the city of Salamanca and providing information about local attractions and specialties, as well as visitor services. It can be considered the city's point of reception, as it is often the first place visitors go when they need information. Students may help with administrative tasks in the office, visitor services, fielding requests from other agencies, preparing tourism materials for fairs and congresses, and supporting the coordination of tourist programs.
Language Requirement: Spanish (Intermediate)
These primary and secondary educational institutions provide high-quality, bilingual education. Participants in one of these schools may serve as a teacher’s aid and gain classroom experience by working with local students. Additionally, participants are needed to help with English conversation classes, teaching pronunciation, assisting teachers in daily classroom duties, helping with homework, and designing creative activities for classes.

The University of Salamanca has initiated programs and campaigns to make the city greener and improve the lives of its residents. Service-learning projects may include administrative office duties, city and river clean-up, workshops on recycling, and public campaigns on sustainability issues. Participants may also have opportunities to assist with outdoor activities related to environmental education and raise awareness about creative ecological practices that favor sustainability.

This organization was founded by a group of families more than 50 years ago to improve the quality of life for people with intellectual disabilities and their families. They manage day centers, a school, an employment center, housing and residences, and support services for more than 1000 people. Participants may help with both administrative and community work.

The organization works to develop the potential of children and young people, foster a suitable environment for their growth and promote social responsibility. Their goal is to maximize the capabilities of children and accompany the comprehensive development of young people, focusing on critical factors (such as education, housing, or leisure time) that may infringe on their ability to grow and prosper. Participants may support daily administrative and direct contact activities, with emphasis on educational reinforcement and recreational programs.
