On February 3, authorities in the Andalucia autonomous community in southern Spain have issued a severe weather warning for region ahead of anticipated heavy rains and strong winds. This alert includes the WorldStrides program cities of Seville, Granada, and Málaga.
In anticipation of adverse weather, all schools and universities in the region will be closed tomorrow, February 4, 2026. Students participating in WorldStrides programs in the region have been notified of the severe weather warning and the directives from local authorities to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel on February 4.
While the worst effects of the storm are predicted to pass by Thursday, February 5, local WorldStrides staff in Seville, Granada, and Málaga will continue to be in communication with and advise students accordingly. This Worldwide Alert will be updated, as necessary.
January 18, 2026 | Málaga & Madrid, Spain
Sunday evening, January 18, a fatal train crash between two trains occurred outside of the city of Adamuz, Córdoba province, in southern Spain. The trains involved were traveling between Málaga to Madrid and Madrid to Huelva, respectively. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident and advising the public to avoid the area. Train interruptions are expected between Madrid and Andalusia on Monday, January.
WorldStrides resident staff have reached out to all students in Málaga and Madrid, advising them to follow guidance of local authorities and encouraging them to be in touch with their families at home. WorldStrides will continue to monitor the situation and advise students accordingly.
