September 17, 2025 | Paris, France
On Thursday, September 18th, a nationwide general strike in France is expected to cause significant disruptions around the country, including Paris. The strike is led by major unions in response to proposed government austerity measures. Local authorities in Paris have encouraged citizens to stay home and work remotely for the day. Additionally, many lines of the city's metro and train services are expected to not be operational or working at a reduced capacity.
The WorldStrides Paris resident staff has been in communication with students regarding this civic action and provided them with information about what they can expect during the day. They have also confirmed with students that all host institutions will be closed; however, courses will still be held online with required attendance. Students have been reminded to avoid protests and follow the directives of local authorities. The WorldStrides Paris office will also be closed, but staff will still be available to students through phone or messaging platforms.

July 20, 2025 | Chile
The earthquake in Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula on July 29, 2025 triggered tsunami warnings across the Pacific region, and WorldStrides has continued to track developments overnight into this morning. At this time, there have been few reports of significant damages or issues in affected areas such as Japan, Hawaii, Alaska, and other Pacific islands. As the potential tsunami waves cross the Pacific Ocean, they are anticipated to arrive into Chile this afternoon about 3:30PM (local time). As a precaution, Chilean authorities have issued a tsunami warning and evacuation orders for low-lying areas around the coast.
The WorldStrides Chile resident staff have been in touch with all our students and host families to share guidance from local authorities, including to avoid coastal areas until the tsunami warning is lifted. Any student in an evacuation area has confirmed their plans for evacuation with the resident staff. All host universities have cancelled classes for today, July 30th and public transportation will be suspended beginning at 12PM (local time).
The WorldStrides Health & Safety team will continue to stay in close contact with our team in Chile and provide you with additional updates, as necessary.
