February 27, 2026 | Milan, Italy
In the afternoon hours of Friday, February 27, a street tram in central Milan derailed and collided with a nearby building. Early reports indicate the fatal crash was due to operator error, though an investigation into the incident continues.
All WorldStrides students in Milan have been accounted for. Local WorldStrides staff are in communication with students and have reminded them to follow the directives of local authorities, avoid the area around crash, and check in with their loved ones at home in the US. WorldStrides will continue to monitor this incident and update this alert, as necessary.
February 11, 2026 | Barcelona, Spain
On February 11, authorities in the Catalunya autonomous community in northeastern Spain have issued a severe weather warning for the region ahead of anticipated strong winds on Thursday, February 12. This alert includes the WorldStrides program city of Barcelona.
In anticipation of adverse weather, all schools and universities in the region will be closed on, February 12, 2026. Students participating in WorldStrides programs in Barcelona have been notified of the severe weather warning and the directives from local authorities to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel on February 12.
While the worst effects of the storm are predicted to pass by Friday, February 13, local WorldStrides staff in Barcelona will continue to be in communication with and advise students accordingly. This alert will be updated, as necessary.
February 3, 2026 | Andalucia, Spain
On February 3, authorities in the Andalucia autonomous community in southern Spain have issued a severe weather warning for region ahead of anticipated heavy rains and strong winds. This alert includes the WorldStrides program cities of Seville, Granada, and Málaga.
In anticipation of adverse weather, all schools and universities in the region will be closed tomorrow, February 4, 2026. Students participating in WorldStrides programs in the region have been notified of the severe weather warning and the directives from local authorities to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel on February 4.
While the worst effects of the storm are predicted to pass by Thursday, February 5, local WorldStrides staff in Seville, Granada, and Málaga will continue to be in communication with and advise students accordingly. This Worldwide Alert will be updated, as necessary.
