Budgeting and expenses

It’s always a good idea to plan your budget ahead of time so you are fully prepared. Take some time to see what your tuition covers and what extra costs might come up.

Here’s everything your program cost covers

We believe in transparent pricing—no surprises, just clear details on what’s included in your program. From housing and on-site support to cultural activities and health and safety coverage, you’ll know exactly what you’re getting for your program price. Bringing a digital or printed version of our funding guide with you can help you keep track of costs. Plus, it comes with a planner so you can take notes when needed.

Out-of-pocket costs

Here are some out-of-pocket costs you’ll need to plan for including books, school supplies, personal expenses, international airfare, and meals. Personal expenses can include toiletries, snacks, local transportation, and everything in between.

As a reminder, all students will be responsible for securing the following travel expenses:

  • Passport: $165
  • Student Visa (if applicable): $50 - $600
  • Entrance/Departure fee (if applicable): $10 - $150

Not included in these budget estimates are potential immunizations and additional travel outside of your host city. We recommend using the cost comparison worksheet in our funding guide to compare your typical expenses at your U.S. university against those associated with your program destination.

While expenses will vary depending on your destination and personal choices, this will give you a general idea of what to expect, so you budget more confidently.

Payment plans

WorldStrides is happy to offer the option of a payment plan for participants and their families who need more time to make payment arrangements. There is a $25 fee for the plan, which should be arranged by the payment due date for the program. The program price is typically divided into three payment installments. The first payment is due by the payment due date of the program, with the last payment due no later than two weeks before the start of the program.

Please contact your WorldStrides program manager or HigherEdFinAid@worldstrides.org to set up a payment plan. Students will also have access to a Payment Plan Request Form in their WorldStrides student account.
