Out-of-pocket costs
Here are some out-of-pocket costs you’ll need to plan for including books, school supplies, personal expenses, international airfare, and meals. Personal expenses can include toiletries, snacks, local transportation, and everything in between.
As a reminder, all students will be responsible for securing the following travel expenses:
- Passport: $165
- Student Visa (if applicable): $50 - $600
- Entrance/Departure fee (if applicable): $10 - $150
Not included in these budget estimates are potential immunizations and additional travel outside of your host city. We recommend using the cost comparison worksheet in our funding guide to compare your typical expenses at your U.S. university against those associated with your program destination.
While expenses will vary depending on your destination and personal choices, this will give you a general idea of what to expect, so you budget more confidently.

Payment plans
WorldStrides is happy to offer the option of a payment plan for participants and their families who need more time to make payment arrangements. There is a $25 fee for the plan, which should be arranged by the payment due date for the program. The program price is typically divided into three payment installments. The first payment is due by the payment due date of the program, with the last payment due no later than two weeks before the start of the program.
Please contact your WorldStrides program manager or HigherEdFinAid@worldstrides.org to set up a payment plan. Students will also have access to a Payment Plan Request Form in their WorldStrides student account.
