Students on program
Our team partnered with West Chester University to create and deliver the university’s first-ever international program for degree-seeking students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) as part of the Dub-C Autism Program (D-CAP). We worked with Cherie Fishbaugh, Director of Autism Services at West Chester University, and developer of D-CAP, to design a short-term, faculty-led program that would provide students with a culturally immersive experience in London, England. London is one of the top 10 sensory-friendly places to visit in the world and was the perfect way to introduce students to an international experience.
The Global Experiences and on-site teams developed a sensory-sensitive itinerary and adapted activities for individuals with autism. Some of the most popular activities among the students included horseback riding, kayaking on the Thames, “The Making of Harry Potter” tour, enjoying high tea, and relaxing in Hyde Park.
Many students had not travelled outside of the U.S. before, and some had never traveled outside of Pennsylvania. The growth I have observed in our students was astonishing. We don’t have a single student who didn’t love the trip. They are already talking about next year!
