When I first arrived in Buenos Aires, Argentina, it was February—the middle of summer! Coming from snowy Colorado, USA, I was ecstatic to be experiencing warm weather again and wanted to spend every moment outside. Follow along to see how I spent my first summer weekend in Buenos Aires.
A Green City
One of the first things I noticed was how green the city is and how many great parks there are in Buenos Aires. On the weekends, the parks are packed with people lying on the grass, reading, taking rowboats out on the lake, and playing sports. When I went on a Saturday morning, there were many families enjoying the outdoors together, and it seemed like nobody was in a hurry.
Teatro Colón
To get out of the sun and enjoy some of the art and culture that Buenos Aires has to offer, I took a tour of Teatro Colón on Saturday afternoon. Teatro Colón is a historic opera house in Buenos Aires that takes aesthetic inspiration from France’s Palace of Versailles. This opera house is thought to have the best acoustics in the world for opera performances!
San Telmo
On Sundays, the neighborhood of San Telmo hosts a massive market for crafts, handmade goods, soccer jerseys, foods from all over the world, fresh juices, and almost anything else you can imagine. I was even able to enjoy a live tango performance on one of San Telmo’s side streets.
La Boca
After enjoying the San Telmo neighborhood, I took a short bus ride to La Boca, a colorful neighborhood known for its lively atmosphere and its famous soccer stadium, La Bombonera. This area had many shops selling Boca Juniors soccer jerseys, Messi and Maradona magnets and keychains, and all things soccer!
