Road Trips Across America

One of summer’s most liberating experiences is hitting the open road, and here in the good ole US of A, there’s a lot of land to cover! Now that summer is officially here, it’s time to gas up the car, and start your engines!

Here are a few classic road trips that cover three of the most summer-worthy regions of America.

Route 66

As they say, get your kicks on Route 66! Route 66 spans a total of 2,448 miles from Chicago to Los Angeles. Once one of the most travel routes across the country, it was replaced with multiple newer highway systems that bypassed the towns off of Route 66. Many of these towns suffered loss of revenue due to lack of tourists stopping in their town. Even though Route 66 was decommissioned in the 1980s and technically doesn’t exist anymore, you can still travel the roads and journey through the states and find some amazing roadside attractions, including classic drive-ins, diners, museums, caverns, and even ghost towns.

Pacific Coast Highway

Stretching 655 miles north and south in California is the great Pacific Coast Highway. It’s easy to get caught up in the breathtaking views, but there is a lot more than the coastline to check out. Most suggest taking at least three days to traverse the PCH but you can easily spend a week stopping in spots like Big Sur, the historic landmark of Hearst Castle in San Simeon, Muir Beach Overlook, or one of the many bakeries in the Danish-influenced community of Solvang, settled in the early 20^th century. There’s even blue whale watching along the coastline throughout the month of June.

New England

From Maine to Rhode Island, New England is packed with things to see. See the rolling hills of the Berkshires, travel back to colonial times in Boston, go to the Mystic Seaport in Connecticut (hint: grab a slice of pizza at Mystic Pizza from the Julia Roberts movie), enjoy the charm of the coastal city of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and get an authentic Maine lobster roll in Kennebunkport, Maine. We’ve heard you really need at least a week to enjoy the views and winding roads of New England.
