9 days

Your adventure, day by day

Day 1 : Depart U.S. for Uganda
Day 2 : Arrive in Entebbe - Camp Hairy Lemon (Or Similar)
Camp Hairy Lemon

We will be staying in tents with comfy mattresses and bedding, the bathroom facilities have cold showers and sinks. The campsite features a communal camp fire, and lounge area. Settle into camp and receive a safety and orientation briefing. Your time in Uganda takes in vital community activities and conservation initiatives. Camp Uganda work in partnership with Kirundi Primary School. Students will have the opportunity to take part in worthwhile community projects before travelling to visit a chimp sanctuary and learn about primate conservation.

Day 3 : Primary School Project Work
Service Activities

After breakfast, the group will head to Kirindi Primary School by crossing the Nile River by canoe. The team will be given a briefing of daily school life and overview of ongoing projects. Work could include building a kitchen or classroom, tree planting, plastering and/or painting. This is a very poor area of Uganda and lack of resources means that many schools do not have proper classrooms, resulting in children being taught in temporary unsafe structures. You'll help by building permanent school buildings for the children to provide a safe and creative place in which they can learn.

Day 4 : Community Project Work
Service Activities

The next few days will be spent working on the school project, improving infrastructure and resources which will have a huge impact on the learning environment for the local children. The project work will vary depending on the needs of the community at that time. Evenings will be spent resting in hammocks under the stars, enjoying a home cooked dinner and reflecting on the day's activities.

Day 5 : Community Project Work
Service Activities

Continue with school project.

Optional Activities

Your evenings are usually spent relaxing in camp and the local kitchen crew will rustle up a delicious dinner for you and your team. After dinner there are plenty of opportunities for group discussion, reflections on project work, keeping travel diaries up to date, as well as various team led games and activities. Local staff are always in camp and are on hand to chat to and help you with anything else that you need.

Day 6 : Community Project Work
Service Activities

Continue with school project.

Day 7 : Camp Hairy Lemon - Jinja - Entebbe
Journey to Entebbe

Today we will travel from Camp Hairy Lemon to Entebbe. We will stop at Jinja.

Free Time

Famous as the historic source of the Nile River, Jinja is these days the adventure capital of East Africa. Here you can get your fix of outdoor activities in a town with a gorgeous natural setting and some wonderful, crumbling colonial architecture. We will have some free time in Jinja to buy souvenirs and try local delicacies.

Entebbe Backpackers

Our base for the next 2 evenings will be at Entebbe Backpackers. The campsite has a large clean garden for us to pitch tents in, and we will enjoy breakfast and dinner prepared by the resident chefs.

Continue to Explore Entebbe

On the shores of gorgeous Lake Victoria, Entebbe is an attractive, verdant town that served as the capital city during the early years of the British protectorate. Today it's the relaxed pace of life and nearby natural attractions that give the city its charm rather than any notable colonial relics.

Day 8 : Ngamba Island Chimp Sanctuary
Discover Ngamba Island

Today is a fun day out in Lake Victoria - where the group will take a motorized canoe and travel to Ngamba Island. Here, the group will learn about man's closest relative - the chimpanzee and learn about their rehabilitation back into the wild. In the afternoon, head to the viewing platform to watch feeding time before heading back by boat to Entebbe for your final evening in Uganda.

Day 9 : Depart Uganda for U.S.
