State Department Travel Alert Update
The U.S. State Department refreshed its Europe travel alert on Friday, September 1, noting conditions of which American travelers should be aware. The proactive alert is similar to one issued last year ahead of the summer travel season. This is simply a refreshing of the earlier alert, and does not reflect a shift in U.S. policy on travel to Europe.
This update triggers emails to those enrolled in the State Department’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program.
The full Europe Travel Alert can be read here. The alert advises citizens to remain mindful of immediate surroundings when in public spaces.
Rest assured that – as always – WorldStrides’ number one priority is the safety and security of our students. We will not operate any program if we believe safety is at risk. WorldStrides is a fifty-year-old organization that has successfully managed many challenges over the years in our ever changing world. We will do everything possible to ensure that travel opportunities remain available for the education of students worldwide.
Here is information from the State Department website regarding the issuing of alerts:
We issue a Travel Alert for short-term events we think you should know about when planning travel to a country. Examples of reasons for issuing a Travel Alert might include an election season that is bound to have many strikes, demonstrations, or disturbances; a health alert like an outbreak of H1N1; or evidence of an elevated risk of terrorist attacks.
