Topics to Explore

In Jordan, you might choose to explore some of the following topics:

History

In ancient times, this region fell under Egyptian rule, then Babylonian, Persian, Greek, and Roman. The Bible relates how the Israelites passed through Jordan – the Land of Canaan – on their way to the Promised Land. The 400 years of Ottoman control ended in 1918, and Transjordan became part of the British protectorate until the Hashemite Kingdom of Transjordan was officially founded on May 25, 1946. Be inspired by the stories, the contrast in landscapes, and the traces of the rich and varied cultural eras of this small Middle Eastern country.

Tourism

Twenty percent of the workforce is employed directly or indirectly in tourism. Overall, the sector is predicted to grow by 5.5% annually through 2025. The facades hewn in sandstone 2,000 years ago in Ancient Petra are the most famous site, but Roman theaters, temples, arches, and aqueducts and biblical locales offer intriguing and insightful excursions.

Archaeology

The ancient dirt of the Jordan Valley is rich with historical treasures from the Iron Age to the Byzantine Era and home to numerous active digs. Delve deep into the process of uncovering history by observing major excavations such as the Petra Garden, or viewing the fruits of past digs and archaeological efforts currently underway.

Destination Overview

Agriculture-in-the-Dead-Sea-Jordan

King Abdallah II has focused on improving living standards since ascending to the throne in 1999, and many government-owned industries have been privatized. Since only two percent of the land is arable, the agricultural industry does not produce sufficiently, so Jordan imports a large quantity of food items. In 2000, Jordan became a member of the World Trade Organization and entered a free trade agreement with the U.S.
