Cooking Class

Italian cuisine is as ancient as Italy itself, and many popular dishes can be traced back to the pre-Christian era. High quality, fresh ingredients, and time-honored techniques for ease of preparation make Italian food and always-popular option throughout the world. For this interactive and experiential activity, lessons take place in a professional kitchen and allow students to put their hands on the ingredients to create their own meal under expert local guidance. The menu may slightly vary depending on the season and the fresh ingredients available, but will usually be made of bruschetta, different kinds of fresh home-made pasta from scratch (i.e. tagliatelle and ravioli), sauces for the pasta, and a dessert. And best of all, the lesson ends with a multi-course feast!

Bargello Museum (Guided)

The Bargello National Museum (Italian: Museo Nazionale del Bargello or simply Il Bargello) is a museum of fine and applied arts, most renowned for its large collection of Italian Renaissance sculpture. The permanent exhibition of the museum is divided into both thematic and chronological galleries and displays a number of sculptural masterpieces such as the Bacchus, the Pitti Tondo, the Apollo, and the Brutus, all by Michelangelo; the Saint George, and the bronze David by Donatello; the David by Andrea del Verrocchio; and the Perseus by Benvenuto Cellini, among many others

Lecture

Made in Italy – From Florence to Milan
The lecture will look at Italian fashion from Giovanni Battista Giorgini’s “First Italian High Fashion Show” in 1951 to the rise of Milan as the capital of Italian fashion in the 1970s. We will learn about the first Italian designers that broke away from the influence of Paris haute couture to create the chic relaxed italian style still recognized today and about iconic designers such as Armani, Ferré e Versace.

Lecture

The Ferré Lexicon on the White Shirt
The lecture will illustrate the results emerging from the identification and application of the Gianfranco Ferrè lexicon of one of his iconic garments: the white shirt. The analysis of 10 iconic shirts, made available by the Gianfranco Ferrè Research Center archive and created by the Maestro himself between 1986 and 1998, helped to identify the aesthetic "signs" to define a stylistic vocabulary of his poetics. Students in Fashion Design of the Politecnico di Milano (total 170 students) will work in groups on one of the selected shirts and will have to develop a white – Polishirt - shirt (as part of the didactic innovation project of the Departments of Excellence) "contaminated" and enriched by the signs of the Ferrè lexicon. This lecture will highlight the methodological and didactic approach showing the results of this project with the support of photographic documentation and prototype garments.
