The Traveling Journal: Learning About the Nation's Capital
Student Ambassador Abigail Pusey took her first trip to Washington D.C. with us and not only learned a significant amount about the nation’s capital, but also about herself. Read on to hear what Abigail had to say about her adventures in D.C.
“Earlier this year, I went on my first WorldStrides trip to Washington D.C. Let me just say from first-hand experience, it was an amazing trip filled with lots of fun, friends, and great memories!
On my trip to Washington D.C., I went to several museums. My favorites were the Holocaust Museum, the Natural History Museum, and the National American History Museum. We also went to lots of memorials such as the World War II Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, and the Pentagon Memorial. They were all wonderful memorials to visit. The tour guides were extremely knowledgeable and knew the meaning behind every memorial and their symbolic meanings which made the trip more fun.
The trip was full of lots of fun events and fun experiences. The highlight of my trip was going to the Lincoln Memorial. What made it even more cool was the fact that my group got to go see the memorial at night, it was absolutely beautiful!
On this trip, I learned many things about our nation’s capital. I have a better understanding of how brave men and women have sacrificed a lot for this country and I learned what has happened in the past, and what we can do to prevent it in the future.
I learned many things about myself on this trip. I learned how to be responsible with my time, and to not take for granted what our nation has gone through, and what the world has gone through, and to be grateful for what I have.
Students should join a WorldStrides trip because it gives you the chance to have an experience that you may not be able to experience any other way. WorldStrides has given me and my fellow peers the opportunity to see our nation’s capital through an amazing adventure that we were lucky to experience. This trip has allowed so many of us to connect more deeply in so many ways. This trip sparked long lasting friendships and created so many fun, exciting, and amazing memories with my peers.”
