Social Sarah: 6 Ways To Keep Students Engaged Through Social Media This Summer
Summer vacation is fast approaching and while students and teachers alike enjoy the break from school, staying engaged when planning an upcoming WorldStrides program, is still important. Here are six ways you can keep students engaged through social media this summer.
Facebook Groups
Create a Facebook group for your program. Add students registered for the trip and their parents and use it as a space to communicate updates, upload documents, and discuss fundraising opportunities. Try to post a couple of times a week to keep building excitement. Additionally, the group will be a great place to stay in touch with parents while students are traveling.
Instagram Challenges
Give students an Instagram challenge to complete over the summer. For example, ask them to post a photo of something educational they are doing during their break, like a family trip to a historical site. The best photo could earn a prize, perhaps something they could take on their WorldStrides trip.
#WSFunFacts
Encourage learning and stay engaged with students by asking them to research fun facts about places like the White House and the Washington Monument that they will visit while on their program. Have them post those fun facts to Twitter, using hashtag #WSFunFacts. Not only will they be learning, they also have the potential to win an iTunes gift card from WorldStrides!
Share Events
Do you have an event coming up for your WorldStrides program such as a fundraiser or a parent meeting? Facebook Events are a great way to share that information, both with your group and with any Facebook friends that may be interested in your fundraiser.
Ask Questions
Throughout the summer, post questions in your Facebook group to keep the conversation flowing. Ask students what part of their trip they’re looking forward to most, what items are on their packing list, or what sort of entertainment are they bringing to pass time on the flight or bus ride. Books? Favorite music?
Share Articles
Found a great article on manatees? Post it on social media for your students traveling with you to Florida. Sharing articles is a great way to keep students interested in their upcoming WorldStrides program.
