About the Choose Earth Micro-Credential
Inspired by the U.N.’s Sustainable Development Goals, the Choose Earth Micro-Credential provides intersectional resources for participants to learn about sustainability and environmental justice through the lens of their unique destination. The goal is for participants to approach people and communities with intention, taking action to leave a positive impact wherever they are around the globe.
Students will complete a series of modules that include discussion, videos, an eco-challenge, and reflection. They then return home with an introductory overview of sustainability and a shareable badge for use on all professional platforms. The modules are as follows:
- Sustainable Development: Participants research a local environmental or social issue relevant to their program to build an understanding of what it means to be a responsible global citizen. They may also partake in discussion boards with other students.
- What is Sustainability?: Participants dig deeper into the effect of their decisions on the environment and contemplate how they can implement changes toward a more sustainable lifestyle.
- Environmental Justice: Environmental justice involves all of us. Through various case studies, participants answer prompts that highlight the real-world experiences of diverse groups across the globe and expand their perspectives.
- Complete an Eco-Challenge: To demonstrate what they’ve learned, participants choose an eco-challenge that speaks to local opportunities and needs. This hands-on activity should bring direct ecological benefits to the community.
- Putting it into Action: Participants reflect upon their learning journey and share these unique experiences with others in the program. Together, they look to the future for ways to continually apply a sustainable mindset in their own communities.
How does it work?
All digital micro-credentials are issued via the third-party platform Accredible, which allows for one-click sharing to personal websites, LinkedIn, and other social networks. Students can also add relevant supporting documents, including assignments, videos, and completed projects.
