Lincoln’s Home and Neighborhood

Lincoln’s home, located at Eighth and Jackson Streets, is where Lincoln resided with his wife, Mary, and their children, before leaving for the White House. When Lincoln received the Republican candidacy for president, a delegation of Republicans visited him in his parlor. Lincoln and his family lived there for seventeen years before moving to Washington, D.C., in 1861. The family never returned.

Did you know?

  • The Lincoln family purchased the home in May of 1844 for $1,500.
  • The restored house you see today reflects the Lincoln Home of 1860.
