Turtle Hospital

Students will explore behind the scenes at this world-class sea turtle hospital. Groups will have the opportunity to examine x-rays, learn about conservation efforts, and feed rescued sea turtles. The afternoon at the hospital provides a unique glimpse into the interdependence of marine organisms.

Did you know?

• The Turtle Hospital opened in 1986 for the purposes of repairing and releasing injured sea turtles, partnering with universities to conduct sea turtle research, and educating the public on this topic through school programs.
• Some of the sea turtle ailments treated at the hospital include shell damage from boats, flipper amputation caused by traps or fishing lines, and ingestion of foreign objects (balloons, plastic bags, etc.).
• The hospital is typically treating about 45 turtles at one time, and has successfully treated and released over 750 sea turtles throughout its existence.
