Exploratorium
Located at Piers 15 and 17 on San Francisco’s Embarcadero, the Exploratorium is a museum of science and art that features over 650 explore-for-yourself exhibits. This scientific funhouse was founded in 1969 by famous physicist Dr. Frank Oppenheimer. At the museum, you can touch a tornado, stick your shadow to a wall, paint with light, experiment with illusions, and much more.
Did you know?
- Dr. Frank Oppenheimer worked on the Manhattan Project, the international project to create the first atomic bomb during World War II.
- Dr. Oppenheimer was the younger brother of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the first director of Los Alamos National Laboratory. This facility in New Mexico was used for top-secret testing during the Manhattan Project.
