John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park

Students enjoy free time to explore John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in the Florida Keys. This park was the first undersea park to be created in the United States, and visitors to the park can find miles of coral reefs, seagrass beds, and mangrove swamps. Groups may also participate in an oceanography lab on the beach at this unique and beautiful location.

Did you know:

  • The park was named for John D. Pennekamp, a newspaper editor who played an active role in the preservation of the Everglades.
  • More than one million people visit the park each year.
