Oak Ridge Cemetery is the final resting place for President Abraham Lincoln, his wife, and three of their four sons. His wife, Mary Todd Lincoln, selected Oak Ridge Cemetery because of its proximity to the Lincoln home.
Memorials to Illinois veterans of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam are another important part of Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Did you know?
- The eldest son, Robert T. Lincoln, was buried in Arlington National Cemetery against his wishes. Robert Lincoln served as a Captain in the Civil War and later as Secretary of War under President Garfield. His wife had him placed at Arlington.
- In 1960, the Lincoln Family Tomb was designated a National Historic Landmark and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1966.
