Day 2 : Welcome to Iceland!
Arrive in Reykjavik

Begin exploring Iceland's coastal capital.

Blue Lagoon visit

Relax and enjoy the world-famous bright blue mineral-rich swimming pool, the Blue Lagoon, with geothermally heated water in the middle of a large lava field. A swim in the lagoon can be an amazing experience. Great clouds of vapor rise from the water, parting from time to time to reveal the immense stacks and buildings of power plant and moss-covered lava formations in the back group. The bottom is covered with chalky rocks and slimy white silica mud.

Day 3 : Reykjavik
Discover Reykjavik with a Local Guide

Learn Reykjavik's vast history and present highlights on a comprehensive city tour. You’ll explore the boutiques and cafes of historical Laugavegur street, walk along the grounds of Iceland’s “White House,” and catch a glimpse of history at the Hofdi House, where Reagan and Gorbachev held their famous summit in 1986. Finally, you’ll take in the beauty of the city and its surrounding mountains from the viewing deck at the Hallgrimskirkja Church.

Go back to the beginning of Iceland’s turbulent history, starting with the earliest settlers and ending with the 16th century, and experience where legend and history collide.

Day 4 : Reykjavik-Klauster Area
Raufarholshellir lava tunnel guided visit

A journey into Raufarhólshellir is a unique experience and a great opportunity to witness the inner workings of a volcanic eruption as one walks in the path of lava that flowed during the Leitahraun eruption, which occurred east of the Bláfjöll mountains about 5200 years ago. Every winter spectacular ice sculptures are formed inside the entrance of the cave making the experience of visiting the lava tunnel even more breathtaking.

Travel to the South Shore

From Reykjavik, we travel to the South Shore of Iceland.

Visit Skogafoss Waterfall and Skogar Folk Museum

See this small Icelandic village and one of the most popular waterfalls in Iceland, Skogafoss. Then, learn about Iceland heritage at the Skogar Folk Museum.

Day 5 : Skaftafell National Park
Visit Skaftafell National Park

Experience one of Iceland's most outstanding areas of natural beauty. The area is dominated by spectacular views of the mighty Vatnajokull, Europe's largest glacier.

Continue to Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon

See where huge icebergs float and grind together in the still, deep waters of the lagoon.

Day 6 : Thorsmörk Nature Reserve
Explore Thorsmörk Glacial Nature Reserve

Today's adventure will be driving through the Valley of Thor into Thorsmörk Glacial Nature Reserve. This very special deep valley, with glacial tongues descending down the mountainsides from the ice caps, surrounded on 3 sides by the glaciers and is intersected by numerous fast-flowing glacial rivers.

Day 7 : Geysir and Strokkur
Travel to Reykjavik via Þingvellir

Depart for the Golden Circle.

Golden Circle excursion

Make your way to the Great Geysir, watch the Hvítá river disappear into the earth at the Gullfoss waterfall, and watch the Strokkur erupt. The experience all the geological diversity that Iceland has to offer with a visit to the Tingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that falls on a rift between two tectonic plates.

Fridheimar Tomato Eco-farm visit

Learn how Icelanders are able to grow tomatoes all year round despite the dark winters. This family-run farm welcomes tourists to come and have a taste of their home-grown vegetables.

Geothermal bread-making experience

Experience geothermal energy first hand at Laugarvatn Fontana bakery. The bread is made using a traditional recipe, dug it into the warm black sand ground and baked for 24 hours. Enjoy a taste of the bread, served hot from the ground with Icelandic butter.

    Yes. The safety and security of our traveling teachers and students is our top priority, and one measure we take to ensure this safety, and support, is through Tour Central. Tour Central is staffed by WorldStrides employees and is available 24/7 for all traveling groups. Tour Central is there to assist you with any questions or problems that may arise—no matter how big or how small. The staff is specially trained to monitor events domestically and around the world, and has dozens of contingency plans in place to help us jump into action when necessary. The Tour Central number for your group is printed on the WorldStrides name badges that are given to all our travelers for easy access should you need it. This is just one of the many measures that we take to ensure that your trip really is the experience of a lifetime.

Up to Three College Credits Included with this Program

Through our Discovery for Credit Program, students traveling on an international WorldStrides program have the opportunity to earn academic credit by completing an online course that allows them to reflect upon many of the themes and topics explored during their travel program. Those in grades 6–12 at the time of travel can earn free elective high school credit upon successful completion of both the travel program and online course. Through our university partner, George Mason University, eligible students in grades 9-12 at the time of travel can earn up to three college credits upon successful completion of both the travel program and online course. Students who earn credit with WorldStrides will find this distinguishes them as online learners and gives them a jump-start on their path to a successful higher education experience.
