Day 1 :
Depart for Lima, Peru
- Departure your home airport for Lima, Peru:
Be met at the airport by your private coach to transfer you to your hotel, which will be base camp for the next two days.
- Daily Reflection and Group Discussion:
Gather for the first of the evening programs that you'll participate in each night. You'll update your Reflection Journal and share thoughts and impressions that have come to you during the course of your day.
Day 2 :
Explore Lima
- Sightseeing in Lima:
Lima is Peru's capital and largest city. Lima boasts a number of important historical sights, and features pre-Columbian temples, and vestiges of colonial mansions, as well as museums. The historical heart of the city is Plaza de Arms, a large and handsome square with a 17th-century bronze fountain."]
- Stroll through the Plaza de Arms:
Designed in 1535 by Francisco Pizarro, this served as the main square and central part of the city for centuries. Various institutions were built around the square including the Palacio de Gobiermo, the Archbishop's Palace, and the Lima Cathedral.
- Walking Tour of the Colonial Old Quarter:
This historic area once boasted many of the finest mansions in the hemisphere. View the Casa Riva-Aguero, an impressive 18th-century mansion with a beautiful courtyard that now belongs to the Catholic University of Peru; Casa Aliaga, the oldest surviving house in Lima; Casa de Osambela Oquendo, the tallest house in colonial Lima; and the Osambela House.
- Covento y Museo de San Francisco:
Tour the Convent of Saint Francis, the most spectacular of Lima's colonial-era churches.
Day 3 :
Travel to Cusco and the Sacred Valley
- Travel from Lima to Cusco:
- The Inca Trail:
Journey along the Inca Trail with an excursion to the towns of Pisac and Ollantaytambo in the valley of Urubamba.
- Travel by train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes:
Day 4 :
Explore Machu Picchu
- Explore Machu Picchu:
One of the most beautiful and mysterious sites in the world. Enjoy a guided tour of the ruins, including the Caretaker's Hut and Funerary Rock, the Temple of the Sun, the Royal Tomb, and the Royal Sector. Then enter the lower section of the ruins, which was more prosaic in its function, mostly residential and industrial.
- Tour Ollantaytambo:
Ollantaytambo is a quaint village that is surrounded by Inca ruins and is considered the best surviving example of Incan city planning.
Day 5 :
Tour of Cusco
- Travel from Lima to Cusco:
Cusco is the storied capital of the Inca Dynasty and the gateway to the Imperial city of Machu Picchu. Stately and historic, with stone streets and building foundations laid by the Incas more than 5 centuries ago, the town is dynamic, enlivened by throngs of travelers who have transformed the historic center around the Plaza de Armas into a mecca of sorts for South American adventurers.
- Awana Kancha:
In Awana Kancha, you'll visit the Animal Rescue Center and discover the significant role textiles play in the Peruvian culture. Learn how to spin, dye and weave the fabrics.
- Walking Tour of Cusco:
Take in the many Inca ruins, charming streets, and the colonial section of the city. During the walk, stop for a visit to Quricancha - Temple del Sol and Santo Domingo, which together form the most vivid illustration in Cusco of the traditional Andean culture's collision with Western Europe.
- Mission Stay Orientation:
Day 6 :
Mission Work with Homestay
- Mission and Homestay:
Along with your Mission Mentor, you'll work with the Corazon Kid's Club. Students will assist with leading Bible studies, helping with homework, and teaching life skills.
Day 7 :
Mission Work
- Mission Work:
Along with your Mission Mentor, you'll continue with your youth Bible studies and outreach mission work.
- Evening Cooking Class:
Day 8 :
Mission Work
- Mission Work:
Along with your Mission Mentor, you'll continue with your youth Bible studies and outreach mission work.
- Chocolate Museum:
Located on the second floor of an old colonial building with great views of the Plaza Regocijo, you can learn about the history of chocolate, how it is grown, and how cacao is transformed into the chocolate we know and love today.
Day 9 :
Mission Work
- Mission Work:
Along with your Mission Mentor, you'll continue with your youth Bible studies and outreach mission work.
- Discover Museo Inka:
The best museum in the town for those interested in the Incas. The building is also known as the Admiral's House and the restored interior is jam packed with a fine collection of metal and gold work, jewelry, pottery, textiles, mummies, models, and the world's largest collection of queros.
Day 10 :
Mission Work
- Mission Work:
Along with your Mission Mentor, you'll continue with your youth Bible studies and outreach mission work.
Day 11 :
Travel to Lima - Depart Lima for Home
- Travel from Cusco to Lima:
- Miraflores District:
Explore the Miraflores District, known for its shopping areas, gardens, flower-filled parks, and beaches. It is an area of intense artistic and cultural activity that unfolds in its theaters, cinemas, and art galleries. Miraflores is also home to a pre-Inca temple, Hauca Pucllana.
- Parque de la Reserva:
Enjoy The Magic Water Circuit, which has the Guinness Book record for the largest fountain complex in the world, displaying 13 distinct fountains.
- Final Reflection and Discussion:
This evening, you'll make the final entries in your Reflection Journal and share some of the most significant observations and perspectives that have taken shape in the course of your travel experience and how these may be most relevant to you when you return home.
