About MontréalMontréal is the second largest French-speaking city in the world, just after Paris. This bilingual city is traditionally divided by Boulevard Saint Laurent, with francophones to the east and anglophones to the west, although modern waves of immigration have made it common for Montréal residents to speak multiple languages in their daily lives.

Daily Reflection and Group DiscussionJohn Dewey once said, "We do not learn from experience, we learn from reflecting on experience." On every evening of the program, we will set time aside to update our Reflection Journal and share thoughts and impressions that have come up during the day.

Old MontréalEnjoy a walking tour of Vieux-Montréal. Declared a historic district in 1964, Vieux-Montréal is the oldest area in the city, with some of its buildings dating from the 17th century. Explore the eastern part of the old city (near Place Jacques-Cartier) and view Montreal City Hall, Bonsecours Market, and Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel as well as preserved colonial mansions, such as the Château Ramezay and the Sir George-Étienne Cartier National Historic Site of Canada. Further west, Place d'Armes is dominated by Notre-Dame Basilica on its southern side in addition to the Saint-Sulpice Seminary (the oldest surviving building in Montréal). Vieux-Montréal and the Plateau are also known for summer afternoon and evening jazz concerts.

St. Joseph OratorySpend time at the Oratoire Saint-Joseph du Mont-Royal, the world’s largest sanctuary dedicated to Saint Joseph. Founded in 1904 by Brother Andre and his friends, originally as a tiny chapel, the site includes the Italian Renaissance-style Basilica as well as the Crypt Church and Votive Chapel, the Chapel of Brother Andre, the Tomb of Brother Andre, and The Way of the Cross Gardens, with its 17 sculptures.

Old PortWe will take a walking tour of Vieux-Port de Montréal. Located in Old Montréal, it stretches for over two kilometers along the Saint Lawrence River in Old Montréal. The site is near Pointeà-Callière, where the City of Montréal was founded. One of the most famous points of the Old Port is the Montreal Clock Tower or The Sailors' Memorial Clock. It was built as a memorial to the Canadian sailors who died in the First World War. The Clock Tower Beach is located across from the Tower.

Olympic ParkInherited from the games of the XXI Olympiad, the Olympic Park is made up of the Stadium, the Montréal Tower, the Sports Centre, the fields, and the outside grounds. The top three observation floors of the Tower are accessible via a funicular-type elevator.
Olympic TowerThe Montréal Tower Observatory is located in the highest inclined tower in the world, with its 165-meter elevation and 45-degree angles. From the observatory at the top of the tower, the view of Montréal is as unique as it is exceptional. On a clear day, visitors can see up to 80 kilometers all around, including the Laurentian Mountains.
Space for Life PlanetariumSpend time exploring the Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium, which is the successor to the Montréal Planetarium. Sustainable development is a focus for Space for Life and is reflected in the planetarium's architecture.
Space for Life Botanical GardensExplore the Montréal Botanical Gardens, containing thirty thematic gardens, a collection of 22,000 plant species, 10 exhibition greenhouses, a treehouse, and an arboretum. Within the botanical gardens’ grounds is the insectarium. Beetles, butterflies, and furry spiders are laid out in display cases, vivariums, and exhibition modules carefully designed so everyone can learn more about insects and arthropods.

Underground CityExplore the Underground City, located directly under the heart of Montréal. It is 19 miles long and continues growing. This “city” links many major buildings and multi-level shopping malls in the area.

Final Reflection and Discussion SessionThis evening, we make the final entries in our Reflection Journal and share some of the most significant observations and perspectives that have taken shape in the course of our French language immersion tour. We will also discuss how these insights may be most relevant for us all as we return home.
Our rewarding and enjoyable French language immersion tour comes to an end as our Tour Director accompanies us to the airport on our final day.
