Overview
Step out of the modern day and into the 17th and 18th centuries at Jamestown and Colonial Williamsburg. Students will follow clues and participate in hands-on experiences with tradespeople at the world’s largest living history museum, Colonial Williamsburg. In Jamestown, our nation’s first permanent settlement, they’ll discover what life was like in 1607. They’ll board replicas of the original English ships and explore a recreation of the English settlement and a Native American village.

Travel to Williamsburg, VA
Lunch
Jamestown Glasshouse visit
Watch skilled artisans create glass objects using techniques and tools from the early 17th century. Discover how glassblowing became America’s first industry as you explore the remains of the original furnaces and exhibits on the history of the trade.
Jamestown Settlement guided tour
Step into the early 1600s as your guide brings America’s first permanent settlement to life. Learn about colonial life from costumed interpreters while exploring the recreated fort and Powhatan village, immersive exhibits, and life-size replicas of the ships that brought settlers ashore.

Day 2

Williamsburg full-day visit
Immerse yourself in colonial life as you explore the bustling streets of this recreated Virginia capital. Visit an 18th-century "middling" plantation and join costumed interpreters in a street performance showcasing the debates and events leading up to the Revolutionary War.
Lunch
Williamsburg full-day study visit continued
Continue your visit with a stop at the Governor’s Palace, home to seven Royal Governors and Virginia's first two governors of—Patrick Henry and Thomas Jefferson. Participate in Revolutionary City, an interactive “street theatre,” visit Great Hopes Plantation, a “middling” farm, and experience different aspects of colonial life as you see the jail, Capitol, and post office.

Day 3

Jamestown-Scotland Ferry ride
Cross the James River on a historic route first traveled by early English settlers. Enjoy panoramic views of Jamestown Island, tidal marshes, and native wildlife, and discover how this ferry has connected communities for generations.
Bacon's Castle visit
Discover America’s oldest brick house and only surviving example of Jacobean architecture. Walk through preserved rooms, admire ornate woodwork, and explore the history of early colonists, plantation life, and Bacon’s Rebellion that shaped Virginia history.
Lunch
Freedom Park and Williamsburg Botanical Gardens visit
Discover native plants, wildlife, and diverse ecosystems while exploring scenic nature trails and botanical gardens. Delve into the park’s rich history as a Revolutionary War battleground and one of America’s earliest free Black settlements.

Day 4

Yorktown Victory Center
Explore life during the Revolutionary War through immersive galleries, experiential theater, and authentic artifacts. Walk through a recreated Continental Army encampment and 18th-century farmstead to discover the challenges and triumphs of soldiers, patriots, and everyday townspeople.
Yorktown Battlefield tour
Stand on the battlefield where British forces surrendered to General Washington’s army, ending the Revolutionary War in 1781. Explore Cornwallis' cave on the waterfront, inspect siege lines, and stroll through the nearby town with historic houses still marked by musket ball damage.

In one click friends and family members can make a direct donation to the trip - with 100% of the money raised going to offset their trip price. Thousands of students pay for their entire trip each year through the Gift of Education.
