Overview
Embark on a thrilling performance tour through two of South America’s most exciting capital cities. Between performances for international audiences, your ensemble can look forward to playing the drums with a legendary Candombe group and visiting the birthplace of the genre in the Barrio Sur of Montevideo. In Buenos Aires, your students will explore the Colonia del Sacramento and saddle up for a gaucho-style horseback ride through a working ranch.

Day 1
Overnight flight to Uruguay (Montevideo)
Day 2
Arrive in Montevideo
Meet your Tour Director
Your 24-hour Tour Director will meet you at the airport and remain with your group until your final airport departure.
Montevideo city walk
Montevideo is a modern city that absorbs all of the foreign influences that have migrated here. The historic downtown is a mix of neoclassical, art deco, and older skyscrapers. Being known for its art, music and theatre scene makes Montevideo a fun destination to explore.
Day 3
Rehearsal site of CUAREIM 1080 visit
Visit rehearsal site of CUAREIM 1080, the most legendary Uruguayan Candombe Group. Learn about the history of the rhythm that has been declared "Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity." Play drums with the Candombe Group, feel the Candombe passion, dance and enjoy a great atmosphere. Please note that rehearsals are only available at certain times of the week.
Barrio Sur
Silva Brothers headquarters visit
Visit the birthplace of Candombe over 200 years ago, the "Barrio Sur." We will be welcomed into the headquarters of the Silva Brothers, whose family is still deeply rooted in Candombe. As they open their home, we will have a chance to play the drums and fully experience the people and feeling of the music.
Day 4
Montevideo service-learning project
Spend the day working for and getting to know the local community. Today's work will be centered on the non-governmental organization, CEPRODIH, caring for vulnerable families, especially at risk women and children. We will learn about their social and cultural realities, how they live and their traditions. We can be involved in some of the organization's workshops focused on upcycling that allow for entrepreneurship, reinvestment in the community and sustainability.
Montevideo performance
Student ensembles will have the exciting opportunity to perform in Montevideo, Uruguay’s vibrant capital. Known for its rich cultural scene and warm hospitality, Montevideo offers inspiring venues that reflect its artistic heritage and Latin American charm.
Day 5
Travel to Colonia del Sacramento
Colonia del Sacramento guided excursion (optional)
Ferry across the Río de la Plata to Uruguay for a day in the charming town of Colonia del Sacramento. Enjoy lunch at a downtown restaurant before exploring highlights like El Faro (the historic lighthouse) and the Plaza de Toros Real de San Carlos. Wander through the historic quarter, founded in 1680, where Portuguese-influenced architecture and cobbled streets evoke the feel of old Lisbon. Located in southwestern Uruguay, this picturesque area was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995.
Ferry to Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires is the capital of the Argentine Republic. The name means fair winds in Spanish. It is one of the largest cities in Latin America with a lot of cultural offerings and is the point of departure for travelling to the rest of the country. Inhabitants of Buenos Aires are called porteños, "people from the port". Buenos Aires is a destination that allows the visitor not only to view the city but also to have an exceptional urban adventure.

Buenos Aires guided sightseeing tour
Plaza de Mayo, Congress Hall, San Telmo district, La Recoleta, Metropolitan Cathedral visit
Colón Theater visit
Visit Teatro Colón, one of the world’s most renowned opera houses, celebrated for its exceptional acoustics and stunning architecture. Often compared to La Scala in Milan, the Paris Opera, the Vienna State Opera, London’s Covent Garden, and New York’s Metropolitan Opera.
Buenos Aires performance
Student performance ensembles will have the opportunity to showcase their talents in Buenos Aires, Argentina’s dynamic and culturally rich capital. Famed for its passion for the arts, tango, and European-inspired architecture, Buenos Aires offers inspiring performance settings and enthusiastic audiences.
Day 7
LEAP Go Gaucho!
Saddle up for a gaucho-style horseback ride through the stunning Argentinean landscape as you tour a working agricultural ranch. For safety reasons, weight restrictions apply to this activity.
