Overview
Immerse your scouts in the rich history of Washington D.C. before the excitement of the Convention. Your troop will explore the grounds of Capitol Hill, visit the Juliette Gordon Low historical marker, and pay their respects at the Arlington National Cemetery. Your scouts will also have the chance to discover the impressive collection of their choice at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, Museum of Natural History, or National Gallery of Art.

Day 1
Travel to Washington, D.C.
Meet your Course Leader
Capitol Hill grounds tour
Explore the grounds of Capitol Hill, strolling through scenic gardens and past historic landmarks like the Supreme Court, the Library of Congress, and more. Learn about influential women in Congress, such as Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Jordan, and Shirley Chisholm, and visit the "Suffrage Statues," the Portrait Monument to Lucretia Mott, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Susan B. Anthony in the Rotunda.
White House photo stop
Take a Girl Scout troop photo outside the White House, home of the U.S. president, and discuss notable women who have lived or worked there, including Martha Washington, Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Vice President Kamala Harris.
Juliette Gordon Low historical marker
Snap a selfie with the historic marker honoring Girl Scouts founder Juliette “Daisy” Gordon Low, who inspired generations of girls through fun, friendship, and learning in a nurturing and supportive environment.

Snap some photos in front of the world's tallest stone monument, honoring our nation's first president.
Lincoln Memorial
In remembrance of President Abraham Lincoln and the nation he fought to preserve during the Civil War, visit one of the country's most popular memorials to immerse yourself in his legacy and read his history-changing speeches, including the Gettysburg Address.
Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall & Vietnam Women's Memorial
Experience the power of this memorial to the over 58,000 servicemen and women who gave their lives in service during the Vietnam War.
Korean War Veterans Memorial
Explore this memorial’s 19 stainless steel statues, remembrance pool, and etched granite wall that honors American Korean War veterans with its famous inscription, “Freedom is not Free.”

Arlington National Cemetery & U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial visit
Pay respects at America’s most famous military cemetery. See the Changing of the Guard, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Kennedy gravesites, Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s grave, and the Women in Military Service Memorial.
Lunch
National Museum of African American History and Culture
Explore this popular museum and its range of exhibits showcasing the rich history and culture of African Americans, including artifacts from slavery, the civil rights movement, and contemporary culture. Explore the impact of Black women leaders like Harriet Tubman, Michelle Obama, Shirley Chisholm in civil rights, politics, and the arts.
National Air and Space Museum visit
Explore the world’s largest collection of historic aircraft and spacecraft, learn about taking flight in the sky or galaxy through interactive exhibits, or catch a show at the planetarium. Discuss women in aerospace like Katherine Johnson, Sally Ride, and Mae Jemison.
Dinner
Jefferson Memorial
Dive into Jefferson's enduring legacy in American history, philosophy, and governance while standing before his remarkable bronze statue, reading his famous quotes, and reflecting on his role as the principal author of the Declaration of Independence.
F.D.R. Memorial
Immerse yourself in FDR’s legacy as you explore four outdoor “rooms,” each symbolizing a presidential term, featuring sculptures, waterfalls, and a tribute to Eleanor Roosevelt statue.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial
Inspired by his legendary “I Have a Dream” speech, this 30-foot statue of Dr. King is emerging from a “Stone of Hope,” and includes powerful quotes on civil rights, justice, hope, and love.

Scouts choose their own adventure with a visit to the National Museum of American History, the National Museum of Natural History, or the National Gallery of Art; each offers a unique lens on women's impact in history, science, and the arts.

Mount Vernon Education Center and Grounds Tour
Immerse yourself in George Washington's landmark estate, with interactive exhibits about his life and presidency, and picturesque grounds with gardens and historic buildings. Discuss Martha Washington’s role and impact as the first First Lady of the United States.

One simple call to Customer Service and you’ll know how much may be available for your trip even before signing up. Please note: financial assistance is given on a first-come, first-served basis.

At program sign-up you can opt to pay in full, or break up the cost of your trip with the Advantage Payment Plan. This plan allows you to pay a small initial deposit, then have your remaining payments spread out into affordable monthly amounts.

Fundraising Tools
Our easy-to-use tools put students in the driver's seat of their own fundraising efforts. Students can send e-cards, share links on social media, and even send out printed letters through WorldStrides' Gift of Education program. In one click friends and family members can make a direct donation to the trip - with 100% of the money raised going to offset their trip price. Thousands of students pay for their entire trip each year through the Gift of Education.
