    This organization's goal is to boost cultural activities for youth and women. Participants will have opportunities to help with teaching various classes, including English, computer science, dance classes, sports, music, video editing, theatre, photoshop, drawing and painting, coaching, cinema.

  • Student Radio Station

    Community Development

    Language Requirement: English (Advanced)

    One of only three campus community radio stations in Ireland, this radio station has been serving the Galway university student community for over 30 years. As a radio station "for students, by students", it facilitates genuine participation rather than one-way interactions with listeners and provides diverse and eclectic weekly talk shows covering a wide range of student issues like LGBTQ+ rights, Irish language shows, French language shows, Spanish language shows, university sports coverage, unsigned local artists, current affairs, on-campus event coverage, and more. Throughout the school year and summer, participants can join a dedicated group of local volunteers who work tirelessly to deliver a series of informative, entertaining, and exciting radio programs to the wider community.

  • Center for People with Autism

    Family and Youth Development

    Language Requirement: English (Advanced)

    Assist with a non-profit organization that works to provide support for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families. Founded by a concerned parent group in 2011 to address a need for service provision, information, advocacy, and support for families living with ASD, this organization has since been providing social clubs, respite camps, skills-building workshops, family fun days, and activities for individuals on the spectrum, siblings, and whole families. Participants may support and supervise children of various ages with Autism Spectrum Disorder in a range of clubs and activities. These might include Lego Club, Movie Production Club, and Play Groups, as well as after-school activities, special holiday clubs, and weekend social clubs. During the summer, students primarily help prepare for and implement summer camps, which are held annually by this organization. Potential opportunities to help supervise additional special interest clubs may arise.

  • Support Center for Individuals with Disabilities

    The mission of this organization is to empower people with an intellectual disability to live the lifestyle of their choice and fulfill their own dreams and ambitions. In doing so, they offer practical and fun activities for individuals with disabilities, such as community outings to the coffee shop, shopping center, and gyn, as well as engaging classes and activities such as art and yoga.

  • Equine Therapy Center

    Health

    Language Requirement: English (Advanced)

    This organization provides services like therapeutic horsemanship, equine-facilitated coaching, and EAGALA model equine-assisted personal development and psychotherapy. All the services provided utilize horses as a catalyst for change and are tailored according to the specific goals hoped to be achieved by the individual or group. Their core values include safety, respect, inclusion, learning, and fun.

    PLEASE NOTE: Students are required to have significant previous experience with horses.

  • Family Support Center

    Family and Youth Development, Health

    Language Requirement: Spanish (Intermediate)

    This non-profit opened in 2014 and is dedicated to improving the health and welfare of Peruvian children. The organization provides a "home away from home" for many families that must travel to Lima so that they can be near their children during their hospitalization. Participants will assist with maintaining the facility to ensure a comfortable and welcoming environment for the families in need. Participants will also serve to support the families staying at the home during very trying times. Interested participants may have the opportunity to support fundraising events, support weekly workshops, create brochures and marketing materials, and assist in social media networking.

  • Salamanca City Council Partnership

    Community Development, Family and Youth Development, Health

    Language Requirement: Spanish (High Intermediate)

    ISA Service-Learning has partnered with the Salamanca City Council to coordinate placements with over 80 local non-profit community organizations. These organizations work within a variety of sectors including Family and Youth Development, Community Development, and Health. Examples of organizations include support centers for people with disabilities, senior citizen homes, health clinics, refugee and immigrant support, and summer camps. While we aim to place students in their field of interest, placement with any single organization will depend on the projects available at the time. Students interested in exploring these opportunities should be flexible with their placement options and understand that placement confirmation will likely be 1-2 weeks prior to the program start date.

  • Health Clinics

    Language Requirement: Spanish (Intermediate)

    These private and public health clinics are dedicated to providing quality health care and promoting a healthy and productive lifestyle for the people of Cusco. Health clinic placements are best for students majoring in Pre-Medicine, Pre-Nursing, Public Health, and Health Science or for students interested in learning about foreign health care systems. Participants in these organizations may have opportunities to learn about healthcare in Peru through the observation of procedures and patient consultations, shadowing doctors and nurses, interacting with patients, and assisting with administrative tasks to maintain efficiency and organization.

    *Placements that may involve patient interaction are observation-based; participants are required to complete the Global Ambassadors for Patient Safety (GAPS) workshop for eligibility.

  • Environmental and Sustainability Non-Profit Organization

    Environment

    Language Requirement: Spanish (Beginning)

    This non-profit's mission is to raise awareness about the social and environmental benefits of recycling and the negative consequences of plastic pollution, especially in aquatic ecosystems in and around Lima. Participants will assist the staff with research, seek project proposals for creative recycling initiatives, and develop information sessions for children, youth, and adults. There may also be opportunities to work in a marketing capacity, generating graphics and promotional materials.

  • Elementary School

    Education

    Language Requirement: English (Advanced)

    This local elementary school serves students ages 6-14. Participants will have the opportunity to teach English and gain classroom experience working with students from Prague, Czech Republic. Native English speakers are needed to teach pronunciation, assist teachers in daily classroom duties and the after-school club, help with homework and design creative activities for classes.
