Travel is Back in Washington, D.C.: Flocks of students touring U.S. capital signal life is returning to normal

We are excited to share an article written about the opening of D.C. featuring one of our student groups from Clarkston Junior High School in Michigan! Reuters reporter, Gabriella Borter, reached out to WorldStrides for the Reuters team to join the group for the day. The tour started at Arlington Cemetery in the morning and included a visit to the White House and the various memorials in the afternoon. David Murray, the WorldStrides Course Leader, did a wonderful job, providing insightful and informative commentary throughout the day. Gabriella also did an interview with WorldStrides CEO, Bob Gogel, to learn more about WorldStrides.

The reporting team got to experience firsthand what a rite of passage it is for our students to learn about American history and government through visiting D.C. They also heard from the students and the Program Leader about how great it was to be able to take this trip which is such a milestone event for them. A number of students on the trip were 9th graders who were not able to go last year and did not want to miss out. Others were 8th graders who passed up opportunities to go to sports camps so that they could go on this trip. The students also got the extra bonus of learning about journalism from the Reuters team who shared stories about some of their memorable assignments including covering the conflict in Darfur, the hurricane in Puerto Rico, hospital workers in NY during COVID, and the Capitol riot.
