Kohl's Cares® Supports Schools With $10 Million in Grants

In honor of the 10th anniversary of Kohl’s Cares®, a philanthropic program launched by Kohl’s to support children’s health and education, the Menomonee Falls, WI-based retailer will give $500,000 to 20 different schools this fall – that’s $10 million in grant money up for grabs! If you or students at your school are traveling on a WorldStrides program in the future, think about nominating your school for a grant. The grant money could be used to sponsor your WorldStrides program and help with other projects around the school!

Now through September 3, Kohl’s Facebook fans can nominate any school by describing what the school would do with the winning funds. The winning schools must have at least one Facebook submission detailing how the winning funds will be used. Fans can then vote for their favorite elementary, middle, or high school, with each voting fan allowed to cast a maximum of five votes for any individual school.

In order to receive the $500,000 prize, the 20 schools with the most votes on Facebook must also meet contest criteria (outlined in the official rules here: www.facebook.com/Kohls), and have school officials provide details about how the money will be used to support its educational programs. The winning schools will be announced in late September.

This program will be the cornerstone of Kohl’s back-to-school campaign. Throughout July and August, Kohl’s will target customers with direct mail pieces, and promote the contest in stores nationwide with signage and receipt messaging. The campaign will center on its online component, with emails to customers, Facebook advertising, and voting participation available exclusively through Facebook.

Other philanthropic programs Kohl’s has created include scholarship programs that recognizestudent athletes and volunteers, and the A-Team volunteer program, which was featured on our blog earlier this summer. We’re excited about the support that Kohl’s provides for education and hope that our Program leaders will take advantage of Kohl’s resources.
