In honor of Black History Month, we want to hear from you about the Civil Rights Movement. Take some time to reflect on the following questions or come up with your own. Then write a statement or essay and submit it to ourstories@worldstrides.com. Entering is that easy! At the end of the month, we’ll compile an e-book to share and your entry could be in it, so you can show your friends and family a publication that you’re a part of.
Here are some topics you could write about:
- What Civil Rights event has happened in your community?
- What have you or would you like to do to contribute to the Civil Rights Movement?
- Who is your most-respected Civil Rights activist and why?
The best part about this project is that there’s no wrong answer and no length requirement. If you want your statement to be publishable on Twitter, keep it to under 280 characters. If you’d prefer a longer format, provide a page essay. Do emojis help tell your story? Include ‘em! Feeling inspired by Amanda Gorman’s recent inaugural performance? Write your Civil Rights piece in verse. There are no limits.
By using your voice to talk about the Civil Rights Movement, you’re showing that it only takes one person to create action. Become a part of history and share your voice this February!
