Program Details
Leiden University combines centuries of scholarly prestige with a vibrant, inclusive academic environment. As a EuroScholar in Leiden, you’ll become an active contributor to ongoing research projects across disciplines—ranging from biomedical sciences to social sciences—while working alongside faculty who value critical thinking and curiosity-driven inquiry.
Leiden’s compact, walkable cityscape creates a genuine student experience, where historic architecture, local cafés, and cultural excellence converge. Your research project will be paired with a language or culture component, plus independent study such as a literature review—all tailored through a flexible curriculum designed to meet your academic and career goals.
During the semester, a Mid-Stay Program will be organized for all EuroScholars students at one of the host institutions. Travel and lodging expenses for students traveling to attend are included. The Mid-Stay Program will consist of an academic portion, in which students will present their research findings up to that point of the semester, as well as social activities around the host city.
This program offers a unique fusion of professional development and cultural immersion—situated in a peaceful university town that’s just a short train ride from Amsterdam, The Hague, and the North Sea.
Program eligibility:
A minimum GPA of 3.4 or higher
Currently enrolled at a 4-year institution with sophomore standing (at time of participation)
Demonstrated academic background in the field of study and the specialization chosen
Strong interest in conducting academic research
Research projects in the Natural Sciences, including practical laboratory work, require ample laboratory experience

After you're accepted, you'll work directly with your EuroScholars host institution on your housing assignment. The option listed below is an example of the typical student housing offering. All utilities and internet are included; additional security deposit may be required. A meal plan is not included but may be available for purchase through your host institution.
