The large island nation of Taiwan, or the Republic of China, sits off of the eastern coast of China. Its government was the former ruling power of mainland China until the Communist Party's Chinese Civil War victory in 1949. The island has experienced numerous influences over the centuries, including those of the Dutch, the Japanese, and the Portuguese, who gave the island the name Formosa, meaning "beautiful island." In recent years, the democratic nation has gone through an economic and technological boom, making it a strong contributor to the global economy. On this Mandarin language immersion trip to Taiwan, you will be immersed in the language and culture while taking classes to enhance your overall educational experience. This trip also includes an excursion to Sun Moon Lake as well as a private local university visit.
