During this program, you'll enroll in 4 courses. You'll select 6 - 8 courses for pre-approval; courses will not be confirmed until 1 - 2 months prior to departure.

The Australian academic year begins in February. When selecting courses, ensure they align with the correct semester:

• Semester 1: February – June (U.S. Spring Semester)

• Semester 2: July – November (U.S. Fall Semester)

• The remaining three numbers represent course number.

In Australia, undergraduate degrees are 3 years instead of 4, so the first-level courses dive right into material specific to that discipline, without too much intro-level context. Courses are typically categorized by levels (1000–4000), which correspond to their academic difficulty. Here are our recommended equivalencies to U.S. course levels:

• 1000-level: Equivalent to US 200-level/sophomore courses

• 2000-level: Equivalent to US 300-level/junior courses

• 3000-level: Equivalent to US 400-level/senior courses (these require advanced competency and may have prerequisites)

• 4000-level and above: Graduate-level courses, generally not available to study abroad students

The University of Sydney offers a dynamic internship program for study abroad students, providing valuable hands-on experience through work placements in either industry or academic research. Spanning a wide range of subject areas, these internships consist of 120 hours in a professional or lab setting. Placement opportunities include organizations of all sizes, from major corporations to innovative start-ups.

Beyond the workplace experience, the program includes academic components designed to enhance your learning. These include maintaining reflective journals, completing a final project report, engaging with academic readings, and attending eight hours of professional development sessions.

To enroll in an internship, ensure you select ARTS2600 as one of your course options. This internship course is worth 6 USyd credits, equivalent to 3 - 4 U.S. semester credits.
