Program Details

Spend your summer surrounded by the winding streets, historic districts, and sun-soaked plazas of Granada. During this summer program, you'll have the option to enroll in an intensive Spanish language course or take a combination of Spanish language and electives taught in Spanish or English across business, environmental studies, cultural studies, and more. All classes are taught by Universidad de Granada faculty at the Centro de Lenguas Modernas alongside other international students. Choose to extend your time abroad by combining two summer programs. For students with high-intermediate Spanish or above, you can take part in for-credit internship opportunities—at no additional cost—in fields such as education, business, healthcare, and community service.

We’ll help you make the most of your time abroad with immersive excursions and interactive activities throughout your program. We’ll also host an in-depth orientation when you arrive to help you navigate the city, academic culture, and your new home – all included in your program. From flamenco shows and cooking classes to language exchanges and tours of the Alhambra, your semester in Granada blends classroom learning with authentic Andalusian culture.

Pair your studies with a community engagement opportunity to earn credit while making a meaningful impact in your host community abroad. Serve alongside a local organization and engage in reflective assignments that deepen your understanding of social issues and enhance your intercultural skills. Our local network in Granada, Spain includes organizations that focus on family and youth development, community services, primary education, environmental education, and healthcare.

Universidad de Granada

Founded in 1531, the Universidad de Granada (UGR) is one of Spain’s oldest and largest universities, located in the vibrant city of Granada at the intersection of Moorish history and Spanish culture. You'll study at UGR’s Centro de Lenguas Modernas (CLM), located in the heart of the historic Realejo neighborhood, surrounded by Renaissance palaces, Gothic churches, and cobbled streets.

Enhance your immersion through low-cost and free cultural activities, including concerts, flamenco shows, art exhibitions, and local excursions.
Practice your conversational skills through a structured language exchange program that pairs you with local Spanish students for two-way learning and cultural exchange.
The CLM is centrally located just steps from the WorldStrides Granada office, making it easy to access in-country support throughout your time abroad.

Academics

We know choosing the right courses is important. We've got all the info you need to set yourself up for academic success abroad.

Credits earned vary according to the policies of your home institution. Our enrollment policy and possible visa implications require you to maintain full-time enrollment status, as determined by your home institution, during your program.

The transcript from the Universidad de Granada will reflect Contact Hours. Please discuss credit transfer with your home university prior to departure.

Students on a Summer or Intensive Language + Community Engagement program have the option to receive 2 additional credits from our School of Record, the University of South Florida (USF). Students will receive a letter grade and transcripts will be sent to their home university 2–3 months after the program ends.

This program is open to students across all Spanish language levels. You can enroll in a single 4-week session or combine to meet your academic needs. You'll choose between the following options to determine your courses for each 4-week session:

Intensive Spanish Language: You'll enroll in a single course per 4-week session. An intermediate or higher level of Spanish is required for this program. Your language level will be determined by a placement exam.
Summer: You'll enroll in 2 - 4 courses that total 90 contact hours. You can mix and match Spanish language and electives. This option is open to students across all Spanish language levels. Contact hours for electives range from 22.5 - 45 hours.

All students participating in a community engagement program will be enrolled in our community-engaged learning course. This online course will provide you with a framework to reflect on your experience, learn about social issues affecting your host community, and demonstrate your professional and cultural competencies achieved during your time abroad.

Enrollment in all courses is determined by the results of a language placement exam administered by the CLM. Please note that your performance on the placement exam may not reflect the number of semesters of language instruction you’ve already completed at your home university. We strongly suggest that students who are trying to place into any level of language beyond true beginning prepare for the language placement exam by reviewing previous coursework.

Excursions and Activities

You’ll have access to a detailed itinerary in the WorldStrides Connections app prior to your program.

Offerings vary by term; below is a sample of past activities to give you a taste of what’s in store. Optional excursions require an additional fee.

Housing

After you've applied, you'll complete a housing questionnaire that will help us match your preferences with the available options. Housing assignments are on a first-come, first-served basis, so complete this form as soon as you're able! We strive to match your housing preferences as best we can, but requests cannot be guaranteed.

The options listed below are based on double-occupancy with another international student, unless otherwise noted. Single rooms may be available upon request for an additional fee. Meals and laundry service are not included unless otherwise specified. All utilities and internet are included, though you may be charged an additional fee should your consumption exceed the allotted monthly amount. A refundable security deposit may be required for some options.
