Spanish Language & Latin American Studies

Soak up the seaside spirit and colorful culture of Valparaíso and Viña del Mar, Chile, as you dive into Latin American language, history, and society. This summer program at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV) is designed specifically for international students looking to explore the region’s language and culture—no Spanish experience required. You'll choose from courses taught in English that cover Latin American history, politics, and culture, or opt to strengthen your Spanish through language and culture classes tailored to your skill level.

Those with an advanced level of Spanish and looking to boost their résumé are welcome to enroll in PUCV's business internship course through Chrysalis, the university's business incubator. All courses are led by local professors and offer a welcoming environment with students from around the world.

We'll also host an in-depth orientation when you arrive to help you navigate the city, university, and your new home – all included in your program. Whether you’re exploring the artisan markets and beaches of Playas del Norte, walking the historic streets of Santiago, or visiting Neruda’s whimsical Valparaíso home, this program blends academics with authentic cultural exploration.

Pair your studies with a community engagement opportunity to earn credit while making a meaningful impact in your host community abroad. Serve alongside a local organization and engage in reflective assignments that deepen your understanding of social issues and enhance your intercultural skills. Our local network in Valparaíso and Viña del Mar includes organizations that specialize in ESL education, childhood education and development, and healthcare.
