Immerse yourself in the artistic energy, coastal charm, and historic neighborhoods of Valparaíso and Viña del Mar, Chile. Created with international students in mind, this academic program is run by the International Programs office at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV) and offers the opportunity to enroll in Latin American-focused courses taught in English, including history, political science, and culture, as well as Spanish language courses at every level. Advanced Spanish speakers seeking full integration into Chilean university life have the opportunity to enroll in Spanish-taught courses across a wide range of subjects alongside local students. All classes are taught by local faculty and include students from around the world, fostering a dynamic and immersive classroom environment.
This program offers flexible options to help you meet your goals; you can opt to start your program with the standard semester or select our early start option that features a month-long intensive Spanish program.

We'll also host an in-depth orientation when you arrive to help you navigate the city, university, and your new home – all included in your program. Whether you're soaking in hot springs in Pucón, wandering artisan markets along the coast, or trading stories in a language exchange, this program blends academics with unforgettable cultural experiences.

Pair your studies with a community engagement opportunity to earn credit while making a meaningful impact in your host community abroad. Serve alongside a local organization and engage in reflective assignments that deepen your understanding of social issues and enhance your intercultural skills. Our local network in Valparaíso and Viña del Mar includes organizations that specialize in ESL education, childhood education and development, and healthcare.

Set near the colorful port of Valparaíso, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV) is a prestigious Catholic institution offering a truly immersive Spanish-language experience. Most classes are held in the historic Casa Central, just blocks from the ocean, while some courses take place at satellite campuses in nearby coastal towns, giving you a broader view of the region.

Home Away from Home
After you've applied, you'll complete a housing questionnaire that will help us match your preferences with the available options. Housing assignments are on a first-come, first-served basis, so complete this form as soon as you're able! We strive to match your housing preferences as best we can, but requests cannot be guaranteed.
The options listed below are based on double-occupancy with another international student, unless otherwise noted. Single rooms may be available upon request for an additional fee. Meals and laundry service are not included unless otherwise specified. All utilities and internet are included, though you may be charged an additional fee should your consumption exceed the allotted monthly amount. A refundable security deposit may be required for some options.
