Located in the Tokyo suburbs of Machida, J.F. Oberlin University offers access to central Tokyo while providing a supportive academic environment. You’ll study Japanese while also choosing three or four additional courses taught in English or further focusing on specific language competencies. This program is an ideal fit for students majoring in global studies, international relations, Japanese language, or East Asian studies.

We’ll help you make the most of your time abroad with immersive excursions and interactive activities throughout your program. We’ll also host an in-depth orientation when you arrive to help you navigate the city, university, and your new home – all included in your program. Immerse yourself in Japanese culture through hands-on experiences like a seasonal cooking class, a traditional tea ceremony, and a ceramics or Kintsugi workshop.

Founded in 1946 by Reverend Yasuzo Shimizu, the university is renowned for its commitment to global education and intercultural exchange. J.F. Oberlin provides a supportive environment for students to engage deeply with Japanese language, culture, and society.

Home Away from Home
After you've applied, you'll complete a housing questionnaire that will help us match your preferences with the available options. Housing assignments are on a first-come, first-served basis, so complete this form as soon as you're able! We strive to match your housing preferences as best we can, but requests cannot be guaranteed.
The options listed below are based on double-occupancy with another international student, unless otherwise noted. Single rooms may be available upon request for an additional fee. Meals and laundry service are not included unless otherwise specified. All utilities and internet are included, though you may be charged an additional fee should your consumption exceed the allotted monthly amount. A refundable security deposit may be required for some options.
