Make the most of your summer in Germany’s dynamic capital while taking courses at Freie Universität Berlin (FUB), one of Europe’s most respected research institutions. Whether you're interested in European politics, art history, sociology, or the German language itself, you’ll find engaging, high-quality coursework tailored to your academic goals. You’ll study alongside other international students in a collaborative environment led by local and visiting professors. Choose from a range of German language intensities—from beginner to advanced—or focus your studies on English-taught electives in European studies and social sciences.

From exploring the historic halls of Beelitz-Heilstätten to experiencing Berlin’s iconic art and music scene, this program blends academic depth with vibrant cultural discovery.

Founded during the Cold War as a university for the “Free World,” Freie Universität Berlin (FUB) has grown into one of Europe’s top academic institutions. Located in the leafy district of Lankwitz, about 40 minutes from city center, FUB blends a fascinating political legacy with modern, international programming. Through the university’s immersive program, you’ll explore Berlin’s rich culture, history, and global influence both in and outside the classroom.
Choose from a wide range of courses taught in English or German in subjects like German language, European studies, political science, sociology, art history, and more.
No prior German required—language courses are available at all levels and tailored to your experience and goals.
Discover Berlin’s Bezirke (districts) through hands-on learning and neighborhood exploration projects built into the curriculum.
Study alongside other international students in a program designed to foster intercultural dialogue and global awareness.
Join excursions, local tours, and cultural events coordinated through FUB to help you experience Berlin beyond the classroom.

Excursions and Activities

From guided city tours to hands-on activities and weekend getaways, each experience is intended to help you connect with your host community. You’ll have access to a detailed itinerary in the WorldStrides Connections app prior to your program.
Offerings vary by term; below is a sample of past activities to give you a taste of what’s in store. Optional excursions require an additional fee.
Housing
After you've applied, you'll complete a housing questionnaire that will help us match your preferences with the available options. Housing assignments are on a first-come, first-served basis, so complete this form as soon as you're able! We strive to match your housing preferences as best we can, but requests cannot be guaranteed.
The options listed below are based on double-occupancy with another international student, unless otherwise noted. Single rooms may be available upon request for an additional fee. Meals and laundry service are not included unless otherwise specified. All utilities and internet are included, though you may be charged an additional fee should your consumption exceed the allotted monthly amount. A refundable security deposit may be required for some options.
