EMBA students from the University of Oregon traveled with WorldStrides as part of a customized business program through Morocco and Portugal. Beginning in Casablanca, the students were introduced to executives including the President of the Moroccan International Chamber of Commerce and the General Manager of the Bank of Africa to learn about the growing influence of Casablanca on the international marketplace, especially in global trade and investment.
The group also got a chance to learn from Magideutz president Rachid Ouenniche about several recent innovative green energy initiatives, as well as the COO of a Casablanca engineering firm, who spoke to the group about the operational realities of scaling complex value chains across different markets, regulatory, and industrial landscapes.
Outside of the boardroom, students enjoyed the chance to explore the iconic Hassan II Mosque and learn from a local guide on a lively tour of Casablanca’s historic art deco architecture before heading for the vibrant streets of Lisbon.
There, the group met with the CEOs of several international travel organizations to learn more about Portugal’s strategic global position on the international commerce stage and discussed the future of European healthcare and innovation regulation with Rui Santos Ivo, the President of Portugal’s National Authority of Medicines and Health Products.
Students also enjoyed spending one full day exploring the colorful royal retreat of Sintra, participating in a local market immersion activity, where the group split into teams to visit several local marketplaces to analyze the similarities and differences between Portuguese and American consumer behavior, and setting sail on a special happy hour catamaran cruise.
