Students on program

Salem State University worked with our team to create an undergraduate business program focused on supply chain management in Hong Kong. The group met with global companies for facility tours and lectures to gain an in-depth look at supply chain logistics, and the importance of this industry in this region.

Students participated in a company tour with Modern Terminals, the second largest container terminal operator in Hong Kong and known for its state-of-the-art equipment to handle the world’s largest container vessels. The group also toured SF Supply Chain, the leading supply chain service provider in China, Hong Kong, and Macao and  a partner with DHL.

Seeing the vertical warehouse and where the aircraft parts are kept at SF Supply Chain was so special because it is something I have studied my entire life. It also gave students real-world understanding of what they were studying in the classroom and the importance of the industry in the region.

For a slightly different take on the industry, the group heard from Pacific Basin, a transport company specializing in overseas shipping. Pacific Basin led a discussion on the impacts of shipping on the environment and innovative approaches to make the industry more sustainable. As part of their mission to build a sustainable business, Pacific Basin has committed to becoming net zero by 2050 by using zero-emission-ready vessels and updating operating measures.

The students also had a chance to explore Hong Kong to learn more about the culture and business practices. In addition to a city tour, the group participated in a cooking class, a food tour, and visited two important temples, Wong Tai Sin and Tin Hau, before returning home.
