Program overview
In early August, a cohort of MBA and PMBA students from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School traveled with us to Copenhagen as part of the Happiness Blueprint—an immersive course that offers these future business leaders the chance to experience the Danish approach to work-life balance firsthand.
The group began at the Copenhagen Business School, where they were introduced to the Nordic Model—the recipe for success that drives Denmark’s comprehensive welfare system—by a resident professor in public policy and a Danish culture expert. Students got a chance to see the Nordic Model in action during their visits to local landmark CopenHill, an urban power plant-turned-recreational facility, and the Øens Have Urban Farm.
Aaron, one of the MBA students, recalled a moment that has stayed with him from a Q&A session about the Nordic model:
The group also enjoyed participating in a case study presentation from the innovative creatives at the Advance Agency, meeting with senior officers at the U.S. Embassy at Copenhagen, and hearing about the large-scale implementation of the “triple bottom line” framework from the Scientific Vice President of Novo Nordisk.
A special highlight for the students outside of their Q&A sessions, lectures, and behind-the-scenes visits happened every day around the table, when the group sat down for delicious meals featuring Danish flavors. Students especially loved exploring the Reffen Outdoor Food Market, touring (and tasting) at the historic Old Carlsberg Brewery, and toasting their travels during a happy hour boat ride through the city’s historic canals.
