When you first decide to study abroad, you might not know exactly what to expect. There will be challenges in deciding where to go, what to do, and who you might meet. But it is very important that, wherever you end up, you are able to trust the process. The first few days will be nerve-wracking, but make sure to explore! These pictures are from a few of my first days in Prague.
One of my favorite things about Prague was the sunsets. No matter where we were in the city, it felt like every place had its own individual view of transitioning from day to night. Every day, I would be greeted by a warm mix of colors that marked the closing of yet another great day.
And of course, sometimes when you are living abroad, you will get homesick and feel confused. It is very important that when you feel like this, you turn to your comforts. For me, whenever I started to feel overwhelmed, I would go to my favorite places to get food (the image is from Las Adelitas) or hang out with friends. We would do anything and everything together.
And also, when I felt overwhelmed, I remembered to look around! When you are able to observe your surroundings and take in everything around you, it helps you feel more present. When you are living in a new country, there will be tons of culture shocks, and it is important to learn about your environment.
And of course, remember to enjoy every second. In the blink of an eye, your study abroad experience will come to an end, and you will be left with unforgettable memories. You will have made lifelong connections and learned a lot about yourself, and those experiences will stay with you for life. Thank you, Prague and WorldStrides, for an experience I will never forget.
