Break Away to Busan!

Jordan H.

Texas A&M University | Seoul

There are so many charming things about living in the fast city life. From the bustling streets to the packed subway stations, everything in Seoul seems to be supercharged with energy. While the busy city life is great, nothing feels better than stepping away for a weekend to experience one of Korea’s greatest cities (in my opinion). As my time in Korea came to a close, I decided at the last minute to enjoy a trip to the relaxing coastal city. By the end of my four-day trip, I can definitely say that the area is a must-see! Looking back on my break by the beach, here are some of my favorite activities I experienced in Busan.

On our first day in the coastal city, we embarked on a journey through the Haeundae beach area. This part of Busan is full of beautiful beaches and breathtaking sites. One of my favorite spots along the trip was the Haeundae Beach Blue Line Park. The park is most notable for its adorable sky rails, which slowly transport you between two neighborhoods of Busan, all the while looking along the beach through the skyline windows. The whole park has such a cute retro vibe, it definitely was a highlight of the trip!

Once we arrived in Cheongsapo, we enjoyed a calming walk along the water. The adorable town also houses two lighthouses. With the water and the amazing view, the Haeundae Blue Line Park was a perfect break from the fast-paced life in Seoul.

Here is the first view I saw after exiting the Cheongsapo sky rail station. If you look really close, you can see the beach train about to pass by!

Day two of my Busan trip took me to a completely new area of the city, the Gamcheon Culture Village. This cute village area is full of brightly colored houses and cute photo zones. Make sure to bring a camera, as every corner of the culture village will make you want to snap a photo to remember!

The view from the Gamcheon culture village is so beautiful no matter the angle! I love all of the brightly colored houses that blanket the village area.

To close off the relaxing trip, We went to check out a local coffee shop known for its amazing view. Located right off the water, the Thrill on the Mug cafe is both home to a great view and a thrilling adventure.

If you are just looking to relax, the inside of the cafe has a beautiful view of the water! If you are still looking for an adventure, the top floor of the cafe also houses a beach-side zip line where you can soar over Busan’s coastline. Whether you are enjoying a pastry by the water or gliding through the air, this cafe was one of my favorite activities during the whole trip.

The amazing ocean view definitely makes this cafe a must-see! The interior has beautiful floor-to-ceiling windows, making it the perfect spot to absorb the calm ocean energy while beating the heat!
