A Weekend in Lisboa

As I hop off the train in Lisbon, I am immediately greeted by the beauty of Portugal's flag as planes fly in the distance. This is only a sneak peek into Lisbon’s effortless beauty. A place full of color, culture, and care.

A Portuguese flag waving in the wind with a plane flying over the Monument to the Discoveries in Lisbon under a blue sky.

We stumbled into a park for breakfast. The gazebo has been graffitied yet somehow it manages to still keep its elegance. Perfect place for a coffee and a pastel de nata.

A vibrant yellow gazebo covered in graffiti art, framed by flowering purple Jacaranda trees and green foliage, under a clear blue sky.
A vibrant street in Lisbon, Portugal, adorned with colorful festive garlands and bunting, with traditional buildings and parked cars lining the narrow thoroughfare.

The stroll continues through the suburbs. I can’t help but stop and admire the beauty in the banners. This is a neighborly bond displayed for the whole community.

We find a viewpoint to stop and enjoy the city's skyline. If you look closely here, you can see a rainbow being formed by the houses. You can't escape color here.

A dilapidated, graffiti-covered concrete structure with red-tiled roofs and distant church spires under a clear blue sky.

The journey continues, but this time towards the water. On our way, we enjoyed a healthy mix of street art and street music. A free show is always appreciated.

Before we reach the water, we pass the iconic trams of Lisbon. The vibrancy stays consistent even with public transport, a sunny yellow view before we reach the sea.

A viewpoint will never fail to get my attention. On the walk back to the hostel, I stumbled across this beautiful mosaic. It feels impossible not to have at least one form of art in your view at all times.

An aerial view of a dense European city with terracotta tiled rooftops and a prominent street art mural of a woman with flowers and birds on a building wall, overlooking a large body of water.
Four soldiers in camouflage uniforms walk on a cobbled street in front of a grand white domed basilica under a clear blue sky.

As we turn the corner, we are immediately met with a combination of the past and present. The Portuguese military walks to their post as the Cathedral glistens in the background. Unexpected beauty again.

Lisbon ends where we begin, as the opposite side matches the flag's beauty. A complete display of the city within its largest park. Lisbon truly has my heart.
