Richard Scerbo is Director of the National Orchestral Institute + Festival where he leads one of the nation’s most prestigious training programs for emerging orchestral musicians. For over ten years, Scerbo has worked in various roles to oversee the artistic growth of the Institute and its innovative training curriculum in orchestral performance, conductorless chamber orchestras, professional development, and community engagement. For his work, he was selected as a Musical America Innovator and is profiled in Musical America’s Innovators: 30 Professionals of the Year. Most recently, he shepherded the National Orchestral Institute to its first Grammy nomination in the prestigious category of “Best Orchestral Performance” for an album of works by John Harbison, Steven Stucky, and Carl Ruggles.
As conductor, Scerbo is the founding Artistic Director of Inscape Chamber Orchestra, Music Director of the NIH Community Orchestra, and Principal Conductor of the DC Youth Orchestra. With Inscape he has recorded numerous albums of American music, including the Grammy-nominated album Sprung Rhythm. A passionate advocate for new music, he has commissioned and conducted the premieres of over forty works by emerging American composers. In recent seasons, he led a North American premiere by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies; conducted chamber operas ranging from Bernstein to Stravinsky and a pantomime by Manuel de Falla; and worked with Mason Bates’s Jukebox series at the Kennedy Center where he conducted shows with German IDM duo Mouse on Mars, techno legend Juan Atkins, and electronica artists from Thievery Corporation. He was guided in his conducting studies by James Ross, Leonard Slatkin, Heinz Fricke, Gustav Meier, and Johannes Schlaefli at the Musikhochschule Zurich.
A native of Philadelphia, Evan Ross Solomon is widely-known for his versatility, depth of tone, and technical brilliance on both clarinet and bass clarinet. Recognized for his compelling performances of works of Brahms, Mozart, and Messiaen, Mr. Solomon is equally at home in many works of contemporary music. As principal clarinet of Inscape Chamber Orchestra, Mr. Solomon’s performances have been praised by publications such as The Washington Post, The New York Times, and Gramophon Magazine. Mr. Solomon appears prominently on all four of Inscape Chamber Orchestra’s recordings including the 2014 Grammy nominated “Sprung Rhythm,” and the 2016 recording of “Petrushka,” for 17 solo players.
As a conductor and arts leader, Mr. Solomon is the Artistic Director of the DC Youth Orchestra Program (DCYOP). Since assuming this role in 2014, Mr. Solomon has conducted DCYOP ensembles on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, at the National Basilica, and with the Washington Ballet in performances of Peter and the Wolf. Mr. Solomon has participated in three international tours with the DC Youth Orchestra including their residency at the MusicaRiva Festival in Riva del Garda, Italy in the Summer of 2018.
Mr. Solomon holds Degrees from Peabody Conservatory of Music and University of Maryland.

Walking Tour of Altstadt (OId Town)Enjoy a walking tour of the Altstadt of Munich, beginning at the former gate Karlstor. We will then view the Altes Rathaus and Peterskirche before strolling down Neuhauser Street, Munich's largest shopping street, lined with 19th century buildings.
MarienplatzDiscover the area of Munich around Marienplatz, which is dedicated to the patron of the city. See the Neues Rathaus and observe the Glockenspiel on its facade. This is the fourth largest chiming clock in Europe, and stages an elaborate performance twice a day.

Visit Neuschwanstein Castle, situated on an outcrop of rock towering over a gorge in the River Pöllat. King Ludwig II, one of Richard Wagner’s greatest admirers and said to be the inspiration for Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, only lived here for 172 days after construction took seven times longer than anticipated. The highlight of the castle tour is the Throne Room, designed in Byzantine style, with gilded murals, mosaics, and a huge chandelier.

The historic center is thus renowned for its Baroque architecture and is one of the best-preserved city centers north of the Alps. It was listed as a UNESCO world heritage site in 1996.

Enjoy a Walking Tour through the Old City of Salzburg, a maze of meandering lanes, curious steeples, cobbled streets and spacious squares. Here we will view Mozart's Birthplace, the Old Square, the Cathedral, and the Residenz. A highlight of our walk will be the Glockenspiel, an early 18th century carillon with 35 bells. We can hear the bells from any one of the cafes lining the edges of the Mozartplatz, while sipping our favorite coffee or drink.
Salzburger DomExplore Salzburger Dom (Salzburg Cathedral), which is world renowned for its 4,000-pipe organ. The cathedral has been hailed by some critics as the 'most perfect' Renaissance building in the Germanic countries. It features a marble facade and symmetrical twin towers.

Haus der MusikAn interactive discovery museum in the former home of Otto Nicolai, the founder of the Vienna Philharmonic, where visitors can conduct the orchestra from a virtual conductor’s podium (the musicians on the screen will tell you if you are up to par). Journey back in time to see the great classical composers; compose a waltz and have it played! A total of 5,000 square meters has been set aside exclusively for areas dedicated to a wide array of approaches to music.
City ParkExplore Stadt Park, a lovely park that lies on the slope where the Danube used to overflow into the inner city before the construction of the Danube Canal. Many memorial statues of the great composers of the past stand in the park; the best known depicts Johann Strauss Jr., who composed Die Fledermaus and "The Beautiful Blue Danube."

Enjoy a walking tour of PragueEnjoy a walking tour following the route of the coronation processions of the Bohemian kings and queens, linking two important royal seats, the Royal Court and Prague Castle. The coronations were accompanied by ringing of bells, music, singing, gunnery fire, and theatrical performances. Our walking tour begins on the former site of the Royal Court, now the Municipal House. We pass under the Gothic Powder Gate and walk along one of Prague's most historic streets, the Celenta. We continue down the Celenta until we reach Old Town Square, the site of much of Prague's colorful history.

Prague CastleExplore Prague Castle, the spectacular centerpiece of the old city, founded in the 9th century. Inside the castle, we will visit St. Vitus Cathedral, built in 1344 on the order of Charles IV. DresdenDresden is the capital city of the federal state of Saxony located near the Czech border on the River Elbe. This beautiful town is a cultural center, known worldwide especially for historic landmarks. Dresden is also home to extensive art collections, significant buildings from a variety of architectural periods and world-famous musical ensembles. Dresden suffered immense damage during the Allied bombing in February 1945. However, thanks to the survivors' determination to move on and return the town its former glory, Dresden can enjoy its famous attribute 'Florence of the Elbe' again.
