As choral musicians, we’ve always known that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. In this highly interactive and inspiring combined session, we will explore what makes an “ensemble” and how it relates not just to musical performance, but empathy and even personal well-being. Perhaps now more than ever, the nature of choral music is the answer to so many pertinent issues in our world.

Learn the basics of electronic music making. While the initial hurdle into this style of music is often the cost of equipment, Dr. Bondari will introduce participants to free and inexpensive electronic music software that they can use on their personal computers while exploring synthesis and sampling techniques.

How does a singer go beyond the notes on the page and truly evoke expression in performance? Acknowledging that the performer is responsible for digging deep into the music when making important decisions about on-stage presentation, participants will learn fundamental approaches to finding character motives within the art song and operatic repertoire.

IPA is a universal system of how sounds are pronounced within any spoken language. Because of its effectiveness, learning the basic tenets of IPA is required for vocal music majors at nearly every college and university. Get a head start!

Pre-selected participants will perform a musical theatre selection and receive feedback from a world-class musical theatre performer and coach. Strategies for role preparation and acting techniques will be discussed at length. Concepts will be made relevant to all of those in attendance. An accompanist will be provided.

What are college professors looking for in a successful audition? This Q&A session will offer guidance on repertoire selection, how to prepare for the audition, communication with faculty before/after the audition, and other topics. Arrive with lots of questions!

Pre-selected participants who have studied voice privately will sing a prepared piece from the classical art song repertoire for a panel of distinguished vocal professors. All students in attendance will learn techniques to improve alignment, breathing, resonance, diction, and stage presence. An accompanist will be provided.
