National Zoo

This 163-acre park contains more than 3,500 animals representing over 500 species. The National Zoo is world famous for its two giant pandas and for the display, breeding, and study of wild animals. Species such as the American buffalo, Galapagos tortoise, grizzly bear, and polar bear are being studied in an international preservation effort.

Interesting Facts:

  • The zoo has the first Komodo dragons ever bred in the western world.
  • You can see an elephant training session, a giant octopus feeding, and a sea lion training session.
