In addition, students work on personal statements and admission interviews. The following elective courses are available at Oxford:  Economics, Law, PPE (Philosophy, Politics and Economics), and Natural Science. In Cambridge, students can choose from:  Business & Management, International Politics, International Organizations, and History.

Oxford Electives

Economics: Do you have a passion for economics and wish to pursue a career in the financial world? The Economics Academy will develop your existing knowledge of economic theories and you will learn how to apply these in practice through analyzing organizations and their economic strategies. In addition to providing you with a historical framework of modern economic systems, the course will teach you theories of micro and macroeconomics, supply and demand, market failure, and game theory. Using case studies of nations like China and organizations like Apple who have seen enormous growth in the last 10-20 years, you will understand how economic success is achieved and what measures organisations and countries can put into place to improve economic status.

Law: Thinking of becoming a lawyer or a judge? Are you interested in international business law, human rights, or criminal justice? Then join our Law School Academy to learn about the different options you will have when studying law at university. Find out about the different law subjects and learn how to work on actual cases. Laws, regulations, and our whole legal systems heavily influence our professional lives, education system, health care, and many other aspects of our lives. As part of the Law School Academy you will find out how the law impacts you and how important legal contracts are. Additionally, we will analyze your study options for law in Oxford, Cambridge, and other outstanding universities worldwide.

PPE (Philosophy, Politics, Economics): PPE is one of the most famous study subjects in Oxford and also Cambridge. PPE stands for the combination of the study subjects of Philosophy, Politics, and Economics. Many well-known politicians, such as the Prime Minister of Great Britain, David Cameron, have studied PPE in Oxford and learned how these subjects are interconnected. Understanding philosophy gives you the chance to understand the world of thought. Studying politics will show you the functioning of states and how communities and counties are governed. As the world cannot survive on only good thoughts and good governance alone, but also needs people working hard to feed themselves as well as those unable to work themselves, PPE concentrates on its third subject, economics and the importance of its effectiveness. This combination of subjects is an enriching way to get a deep understanding of these three influential aspects of good governance and good political and economical leadership. By joining the PPE Academy, you will be introduced to this world-famous study combination at Oxford and Cambridge.

Natural Science: Is it your dream to become an astronaut, a chemist or find a cure for cancer? Then you should consider studying Physics, Biology, Chemistry, or Medicine. As part of our Natural Science Academy we will introduce these university subjects to you and share with you how they are taught in Oxford and Cambridge. You will learn how such subjects and the discoveries of scientists in these fields are influencing and changing our lives. Delegates will learn about the stories and major breakthroughs of selected winners of the Nobel Prize in the categories of Physics, Chemistry, and Medicine who taught or studied in Oxford and Cambridge – in total there are more than 120 researchers of the University of Oxford (UK) and University of Cambridge (UK) who received a Nobel Prize.

Business & Management: Businesses are moving the world. Good ideas are creating outstanding companies such as Facebook, and Samsung, and products and services such as iPhone, Amazon.com, and Virgin Airlines are changing our personal lives. But how is it possible to realize such ideas, create such companies, products, services, and brands? Do you want to find out more about what business really is, and possibly start-up your own? The Business School Academy would be ideal for you, as we work with you on all the exciting and important aspects of running, setting up, and doing business. You might even find out whether you would like to study business management or entrepreneurship at university. As part of Business School Academy we will advise you on which business study options you might have in Oxford, Cambridge, and beyond.

International Politics: In order to understand the global issues effecting society, it is essential to gain knowledge of international politics. This course aims to develop students’ understanding of political powers at work and analyze varying political systems. Governments and political figures are ever changing causing delegates to analyze the successes and failures of past political establishments and discuss the current political climate around the globe. Delegates will compare nations where political systems strongly contrast and understand how these decisions can have varying consequences. The course will also provide an historical overview of how political systems have developed and evolved to become modern structures.

International Organizations: International Organizations are getting more and more important. Our world is becoming ‘smaller’ due to the close political, business and economic ties between countries. In such a globalized world, cooperation through International Organizations such as the United Nations, NATO, African Union, Association of South-East Asian Nations, European Union, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the North-American Free Trade Area is crucial. International Organizations Academy will introduce you to an extensive array of International Organizations and the way they work. Students will analyze case studies from interventions of International Organizations during international crises such as in Mali, Libya, Afghanistan, and Iraq, as well as how to deal with tsunamis. The International Organizations Academy is the ideal program for learning more about the worldwide institutional network of cooperating countries, how they work, what they do, and how they influence world politics.

History: History is one of the most popular degree subjects in the UK and with good reason. Students find studying it enormously interesting and rewarding, and the skills it develops are greatly sought after by top employers in many fields. Cambridge is one of the World’s great History faculties and it is hugely important to us to encourage all very bright, potential historians to consider studying with us. The aim of studying history at university is to further your understanding and knowledge of the past and your ability to present that understanding and knowledge with clarity, insight, and discrimination. The historian has to analyze a large body of material efficiently; to evaluate its significance and utility in answering important questions about societies, institutions, cultures, and individuals; and to order his or her thoughts on these matters succinctly, clearly yet with sensitivity.

Housing and Student Life

Teacher in classroom CBL

Oxford & Cambridge Summer Academy Housing and Student Life

Delegates will experience authentic college life by staying in the same rooms and in the same style as undergraduate students. While historic buildings bring ambiance and tradition, they may also mean adapting to a different style of living. Each student resides in a single or double room on a traditional ‘staircase.’ Private bathroom or ‘en-suite facilities’ can be requested for a fee on the application form on a first-come, first-served basis. Standard rooms share a common bathroom and most college facilities have been recently updated to include several modern shower rooms per floor. Each room is furnished with a bed with linens, a dresser or wardrobe, and a desk and chair. Delegates have access to wireless internet, coin-operated laundry facilities, and space for private study in their rooms. Accommodation is located within walking distance of classes, providing the perfect atmosphere of college student life.

MEALS

Delegates enjoy a cafeteria-style breakfast and dinner in a college dining hall. Breakfast is primarily ‘continental style’ with choices such as cereal, yogurt, fruit, toast, coffee, and tea. Delegates can also choose from a hot cooked breakfast. Multiple options are available at dinner, including a vegetarian dish and a salad bar. Some meals will be eaten off campus, giving delegates the opportunity to socialize with their fellow students and develop long -lasting friendships. Students are responsible for some of their own lunches. These can be purchased at a college snack bar or at any of the many sandwich shops, small restaurants, and coffeehouses near each college.

STAFF AND SUPERVISION

All our programs have central offices open daily from breakfast until midnight where students can seek advice and answers to their questions. The Program Director and residential staff members live in the same residence as the students, ensuring availability and care around the clock.

With 24/7 security and the leafy grounds, delegates have a safe and pleasant learning environment for their study abroad program.
