Your Adventure, Day by Day

Day 1 Departure from North America
  • Flight to Accra Enjoy your scheduled wide-bodied flight to Accra.
Day 2 Arrive in Accra
  • Meet Your Guide We will be met at the airport by our Tour manager/guide, where we will board our own private bus and transfer to our hotel in Accra. This evening we will have a brief overview of the tour and Ghana, followed by dinner.
Day 3 Accra – Liate Wote – Tagbo Falls – Ho
  • Liate Wote This morning we begin our journey for the Volta Region. Upon our arrival we will visit the village of Liate Wote, featuring eco-friendly farms. We will then embark on a trek through the villages, as well as the cocoa, coffee and food crop farms, all while interacting with locals.
  • Tagbo Falls Our day continues through the mountain rainforest to Tagbo falls, where we will enjoy a picnic in the tranquil setting. This afternoon we will make a courtesy call on the Chief of the village and seek his permission to spend time in the village. If granted, we will enjoy the remainder of the afternoon exploring and learning about the tribe and their village.
Day 4 Culture & Conservation
  • Drum and Song Lessons Our morning begins with an exciting Cross-Cultural Connection. We will enjoy Dance, Drum, and Song Lessons that are an important part of the life of the indigenous people of this region.
  • Volunteer Activity at the Community Forest Conservation Project Next we travel to Mount Afadjato, where we will assist in a Volunteer Activity at the Community Forest Conservation Project. We will also visit local industries that depend on raw materials from the forest, including gari making, the processing of palm oil, honey, soap and mushroom products.
  • Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary Our afternoon concludes as we visit the Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary.
Day 5 Ho – Craft Villages – Kumasi
  • Crafts Shops Today we will make an early morning departure as we journey to the Ashanti region. En route we will make a few stops in local villages to explore Crafts Shops that produce and sell kente, pottery, beads, and drums.
  • Centre for National Culture Upon arrival in Kumasi, we will visit the Centre for National Culture, where various artifacts are on display.
Day 6 Manyiah Palace & Volunteer
  • Manyiah Palace Our morning begins with a visit to Manhyiah Palace, the seat of the Ashanti Kingdom.
  • Volunteering at a Kumasi Orphanage We will then spend the Remainder of the day Volunteering at a Kumasi Orphanage. We will visit and play with the children, help repair buildings, and paint, based on the exact needs of the orphanage at the time of our visit. Our interaction with the children will include reading to them, teaching games and songs, and playing other games, such as soccer. We will enjoy lunch with the children at the orphanage and the group will be welcome to provide any donations or supplies to the orphanage, such as books, craft materials, etc.
Day 7 Kumasi – Adanwomase – Elmina
  • Ahwiaa This morning we begin our journey to Elmina on the coast. En route, we will stop to visit the craft villages of Ahwiaa, which specializes in carving, and Ntonso, which specializes in adinkra textiles.
  • Ntonso In Ntonso, we will observe and Learn the Process of Adinkra Printing from a master craftsman and then have an opportunity to stamp chosen motives on t-shirts.
  • Adanwomase We continue to the village of Adanwomase, where we will learn traditional skills like Kente Weaving and Palmvine Tapping. We will also interact with the locals and learn the art and history of the various crafts. This afternoon we continue to Elmina.
Day 8 Castles & Shrines
  • Cape Coast Castle Our day commences with a visit to Cape Coast Castle declared as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO World Heritage Foundation. Our tour will also include a visit to the West African Historical Museum housed within the castle.
  • Elmina Castle Next we will visit Elmina Castle, another well-preserved Castle featuring a slave dungeon, which was built by the Portuguese in 1482. This afternoon we will visit the Asafo Shrines that were used as places for warriors to prepare mentally and spiritually before going to war.
  • Coast Cultural Centre This evening we will visit the Cape Coast Cultural Centre to view a Cultural Performance, where group participation is welcomed and encouraged.
Day 9 Elmina – Kakum National Park – Accra
  • Kakum National Park Today we begin our journey back to Accra. En route, we will stop to visit Kakum National Park comprised of an undisturbed virgin rainforest.
  • Walking Tour and Hans Botel We will take a guided Walking Tour along the canopy walkway, the longest and highest of its kind in West Africa. This afternoon we will also make a stop at the Hans Botel, a resort partly built on stilts over a river, where will have an opportunity to view crocodiles, plentiful bird life, and monkeys. We continue to Accra for the evening.
Day 10 Accra
  • Accra City Tour We begin our day with an Accra City Tour to highlight the important sites, landmarks, and neighborhoods of the capital city. Highlights will include Independence Square, the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, the Arts Centre for National Culture, and the Makola market.
  • National Museum of Ghana During our tour we will visit the National Museum of Ghana, the largest and most comprehensive museum, which features artifacts from Ghana’s long history.
  • Artistes Alliances Art Gallery We will also visit the new Artistes Alliances Art Gallery, a modern gallery featuring evocative and thought provoking works by over three dozen contemporary artists from Ghana and other parts of the world.
  • ATAG Finally we will visit the Aid to Artisans of Ghana (ATAG), which provides an avenue for local artists to sell their wares to distributors around the world. We will spend our final evening at a beach resort for a Farewell Dinner, while enjoying music from a live band.
Day 11 Departure from Accra
  • Return Flight Home Our enjoyable and rewarding tour will come to an end as our tour manager/guide accompanies us to the airport for the return flight home.
