Your Adventure, Day by Day

Day 1 Welcome to Costa Rica!
  • Arrive in Liberia, Costa Rica Meet your WorldStrides representative, participate in a team building activity with your friends, and begin your once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Day 2 El Viejo Wetlands and Palo Verde National Park
  • Breakfast
  • El Viejo Wetlands El Viejo Wetlands is a tourist attraction and Wildlife Refuge which frames Palo Verde National Park, providing a natural buffer zone for thousands of multicolor tropical birds.
  • Palo Verde National Park A tour through the Palo Verde National Park will bring you face to face with hundreds of rare and endangered species of birds. You’ll also find a unique ecosystem that consists of dry forests, lush rainforests, mangrove swamps, fresh and brackish wetlands – all within the Rio Tempisque River basin.
  • While in the national park, you’ll learn about the story of the Guanacaste cowboys, and the spirit they embodied nearly 300 years ago during colonial Costa Rica.

Day 3 Rincon de la Vieja National Park and Salitral Waterfall

  • Rincon de la Vieja National Park The national park was created to protect the 32 different rivers and streams that make up one of Costa Rica’s most important watersheds. These wetlands create the ideal environment for Costa Rica’s national flower, the guaria morada, along with over 300 different species of birds.
  • Your trip this national park will be packed full of adventure and exploration – ziplining, hanging bridges, hot springs, waterfalls and Costa Rica’s largest ‘waterslide in the mountain.’
  • Salitral Waterfall Take a trip to the majestic Salitral Waterfall, which is located within the Rincon de la Vieja National Park.
Day 4 Journey to Nicaragua

  • Travel to Granada, Nicaragua

  • Mombacho Volcano The Mombacho Volcano Natural Reserve is one of the most visited sites in Nicaragua, with the Mombacho Volcano being the centerpiece of the Reserve. Wrapped in a mystical cloud forest, the sides of the volcano are home to a wide variety of unique plants, rare wildlife, and even coffee plantations. Students will hike through the forests to explore one of the four craters that make up the volcano.

Day 5 Granada and Nicaragua Lake
  • Breakfast and Hotel Check-out
  • Tour Granada Start your day in the oldest city of the American continent. You’ll tour the streets and gain a new appreciation for the architecture.
  • In Granada, you'll see - Colon Park - Le Merced Church - La Polvora Fort - San Francisco Convent
  • Volunteer Project at Café de Las Sonrisas Learn how to make hammocks with a local
  • Boat Tour of Nicaragua Lake Tour the largest lake in Central America. A volcanic chain cuts right through the lake creating many beautiful islands and groups of islets. These islets are home to a variety of species of birds, and are even home to local Nicaraguan communities.
  • Pico de Garza Island After exploring the lake, enjoy lunch and some R & R at Pico de Garza Island, a popular hang-out that offers an extraordinary view of the Mombacho Volcano.

  • Evening Activity Learn local dances from Nicaragua natives.
Day 6 Masaya Volcano National Park
  • Breakfast and Hotel Check-out
  • Tour Catarina This tour includes an artisan workshop at San Juan de Oriente where you’ll learn the art of making a mud pot.
  • Masaya Volcano National Park The first national park established in Nicaragua. One of the highlights of the park is the lava lake that formed around the Santiago Crater – you’ll hike to the lake, see the glow of the lava, and learn from scientists the impact the volcanic gases have on acid rain and the environment.
  • You’ll also be able to climb to the top of the Masaya Volcano and peek into the heart of this massive crater.
  • Lunch
  • Tour Managua Discover the historic capital of Nicaragua, and learn about the impact the great earthquake of 1972 had on this city.
  • In Managua, You'll See: - Tiscapa Hills - Acahualinca Footprints - Salvador Allende Port
  • Dinner
Day 7 Depart for Home
  • Depart Managua for the United States.
