Welcome to a country both ancient and new on this China Service Learning Tour. Visit the Forbidden City. Learn to cook Chinese cuisine. Take in an optional Peking Opera show. Walk along the Great Wall. Visit the Ming Tombs. Then try your hand at Tai Ji, a Chinese martial art, or learn calligraphy. Travel to a local community to take part in service activities at a nearby school or village. Wrap up with a visit to Shanghai, China’s largest city.

Day 1 Depart from North America
  • Take Off Board your overnight flight to Beijing.
Day 2 Arrive in China
  • Land in Beijing Arrive in China and begin exploring its fascinating capital city.
Day 3 Great Wall of China
  • Stroll the Wall Shake off your jet lag with a walk along the awe-inspiring Great Wall of China.
  • Ming Tombs This afternoon, visit the majestic Ming Tombs, burial place of thirteen emperors of the Ming Dynasty.
  • LEAP Cook Chinese Cuisine
Day 4 Discover Beijing
  • Guided Tour A local guide leads you through the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, and the Summer Palace.
  • Hutongs andLunch Later today, take a walking tour of the hutongs (ancient city lanes), learn about the daily lives of Beijing citizens, and have lunch with a local family.
  • LEAP Tai Ji
  • Add on: Peking Opera Show Take in an optional Peking Opera show this evening.
Day 5 Huangyaguan Great Wall Community
  • Service in the Huangyaguan Great Wall Community Travel to the Huangyaguan Great Wall community to visit a more remote area of Beijing. Visit schools and villages in this mountain area to take part in service activities.
Day 6 Second Day in Huangyaguan Great Wall Community
  • Continue Your Service Travel to the Huangyaguan Great Wall community and continue to get to know the locals of this mountain area.
Day 7 Third Day in Huangyaguan Great Wall Community
  • Service Wrap-up Visit Huangyaguan Great Wall Community for your last day of service learning.
Day 8 Explore Beijing
  • Take in the Temples Visit the Confucius Temple and the Lama Temple, home of the famous Yellow Hat Sect.
  • Traditional Lunch Savor lunch at a traditional Buddhist restaurant.
  • Peking Duck Dinner Enjoy a Peking Duck Dinner this evening.
  • Travel to Xi'an Board an overnight train to Xi'an.
Day 9 Discover Xi'an
  • Terra Cotta Warriors and Bell Tower See the 8th wonder of the world, the life-size Terra-cotta Warriors. Later, visit the Xi'an Bell Tower, located in the heart of the city.
  • LEAP Chinese School Visit
  • Wild Goose Pagoda Step inside the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, a Buddhist pagoda built in 652. It now stands 210 feet tall and, from the top, offers views over the city of Xi'an. A statue of translator and traveler Xuanzang greets travelers in front of the temple area.
Day 10 Explore More of Xi'an
  • Muslim Quarter Wrap up your stay in Xi'an with a stroll through the Muslim Quarter.
Day 11 Travel to Shanghai
  • Fly to Shanghai Board a flight to Shanghai, China's largest city.
  • Tour Shanghai This afternoon, enjoy a sightseeing tour of Shanghai with a local guide, including the colonial Bund, the French Concession, and People's Square, a spectacular space in the heart of the city.
Day 12 Explore Shanghai
  • Shanghai Museum Spend your morning visiting the Shanghai Museum.
  • Enjoy the Show! This afternoon, marvel at an acrobatic show.
  • LEAP Chinese Calligraphy
Day 13 Depart for Home
  • Final Farewells... Board your flight back to the United States.
