New Delhi – Agra
5 days, 4 nights
- Taj Mahal: Visit one of the world’s most beautiful gems with it’s sheer white beauty and magnificent splendor, the great Taj Mahal. Pink at dawn and dusk, dazzling white at noon, and pearly silver by moonlight, the fabled mausoleum is arguably the world’s most famous building. This is sure to be an experience you will never forget, and will create memories you will share for years to come.
Chennai – Sadhana Forest Village
3 days, 3 nights
- Sadhana Forest: The Sadhana Forest India focuses on reforesting 70 acres of severely degraded land with the indigenous TDEF (Tropical-Dry-Evergreen-Forest). The TDEF is on the verge of extinction as only 0.01% of what used to be a vast forest currently exists in small patches in South India. Besides planting and nurturing trees, another major project in Sadhana Forest is water conservation. The main aim of this ecological project is to support the local rural villages; by retaining water and filling the aquifer, Sadhana Forest India allows the villagers to cultivate their food and prevents exodus towards nearby city slums.
4 days, 4 nights
- Missionaries of Charity founded by Mother Teresa: The Missionaries of Charity is a Roman Catholic Latin Rite religious congregation established in 1950 by Mother Teresa. It consists of over 4,501 religious sisters and is active in 133 countries. Missionaries care for those who include refugees, ex-prostitutes, the mentally ill, sick children, abandoned children, lepers, people with AIDS, the aged, and convalescent. They have schools run by volunteers to educate street children, and they run soup kitchens and provide many other services as per the communities’ needs. They have 19 homes in Kolkata alone, which include homes for women, for orphaned children, and for the dying, an AIDS hospice, a school for street children, and a leper colony. These services are provided, without charge, to people regardless of their religion or social caste. You will have a chance to tour the Mission and register for the next day’s service learning project. You can choose to work with the Leprosy School, Hospital, home for the Elderly, or educational projects for kids.
